Gavrus not playing today in Owen Sounds game. He was hurt by a slew foot in yesterday's game. Hopefully he is alright.

Jeeze maybe he shouldn't have come back from Belarus. Poor kid.

Also, despite Boucher's two shorthanded points, he was still a -1 so that's 3 goals against for his line also.

(and 0 points for Ben Johnson, go figure)

Gavrus did finish that game he was hurt in, so I would assume it's not that serious.

Just came back home after watching MacKinnon and Drouin dangle around the Armada. Would've liked to see Matteau but whatever, watching those two was well worth the ticket.

You can see that MacKinnon is a level better then everyone else. He spins off of checks so fast and so easily, which makes him a force cause he's always a step ahead of his checker. He's real strong on his skates but doesn't have the most fluent of strides and that can be worked on very easily, so it's no concern really. He's a very solid player and reminds me of Parise with more of a scoring touch. He's always on the puck or involved in the play, plays the PP and the PK (with Drouin), plays a physical game (more then ZP of course) and is just relentless on the forecheck.

Drouin probably had some family in the stands cause he played like he was giving a show today. Like MacKinnon, he's a level over everyone else. He has one of the sickest hands I've seen in a while and he has this knack to freeze everyone when he has the puck on his stick. The defence doesn't want to charge cause they'll get humiliated and if they sit back, he eats them alive with accurate passes. He deked 5 different players, 3 times... in the same move. It was a toe drag to the outside, came back threw the legs of the defender, braked and tried to go around him again. He also came in the zone real slow, deked two guys and was in a prime shooting area but tried to deked the goalie instead of shooting and the puck jumped on him. He was dangling like crazy but turned the puck over a little more then I'd like, mostly cause he was "over deking", but the fans were going crazy so He continued to play along (even the Armada fans sitting next to me were going crazy). If I had to compare Drouin, I'd say Patrick Kane with more grit and sandpaper to his game... Maybe a mix of Kane and Giroux.

As much as I think MacKinnon will be the better individual player out of the two, I think I'd prefer Drouin over him. Drouin will make whoever he's with look like a solid player, MacKinnon is more of a "one man show". For each his own I guess.

Pietila is currently 9th in the NCAA with .62 goals per game. Pretty impressive for a defensive forward.

That's very impressive. Hopefully he could become a third liner with a bit of scoring touch for us someday.

It's the style he plays. Speedy + great stick handling with a deadly shot. Can create off the rush, but when he's down low he can spin off checks, reverse back and forth, put the puck through the feet and open up the lanes to pass for someone else to tap it in. I'd say Crosby but we all know where those comparisons go and frankly he doesn't play like that unless he's on the cycle. Otherwise he's a Kovalchuk clone through and through. Or Taylor Hall. Similar styles.

Not saying he's as good or going to be as good, but he's that good in junior.

Dunno if this was posted already, but here's an article about Graham Black and his struggles with Graves' disease: http://www.leaderpost.com/sports/Swi...834/story.html

Quote:
The impressive debut season was recognized when, at long last, Black was drafted. The New Jersey Devils selected him in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2012 NHL entry draft.

However, the excitement was tempered by the recurrence of acute symptoms associated with Graves' Disease. The sleepless nights returned and Black's weight plummeted, without an accompanying descent in his production.

Black is second on the Broncos in goals (19) and third on his team in points (36) while having played in all but two of his team's 48 games.

"Some days are better than others,'' he said. "It has been quite a battle to get back to where I am. Hopefully it'll just keep getting better from here.''

I can understand you love MacKinnon and all but you are way out in left field with your Drouin comparison.

Drouin has the hands but he's physical and back checks just as much as MacKinnon. Kovalev is all about offense and is known to be a floater, which Drouin isn't.

Really? because I saw Drouin float his ass off vs BLB in Halifax and give the puck away countless times

maybe I caught him on the worst game of his life, it looked like it.

Outside of that game, I'm certain you saw him play in the WJC and the "Q" countless times, no? I've never seen him float around but I guess everyone has a off game here and there

Just wanted to give you guys an update on Gavrus. About to go pointless in four straight games in his return to the OHL, but honestly he's been playing fantastic and just not getting rewarded. How he plays in the playoffs and the last 15 games or so will be the biggest indicator of his progress, for me.

He's going to score, it's just a matter of when.

Thanks for the update! He doesn't seem like he's playing particularly timid, does he? That'd be my biggest worry after his injury issues in the OHL.

Reid Boucher held pointless and -2 in a 4-2 loss...
If Boucher were to get drafted this year where in the draft would he go?

First seems a little optimistic......plus we don't want Boucher to pull a Scott Parker. Devils drafted Parker in the 3rd round in 1996. Parker had a big year in 1997-98 and decided to re-enter the draft since it looked likely he'd go somewhere in the 1st and Lou wouldn't give him 1st round money.

Tanner Pearson was a bubble first rounder last year as a 19 year old, but it ended up being a bad year for forwards. 2013 so far seems a bit deeper. We'll see how Boucher's size/skating translate to the the pros soon enough.
