Pretty sure there's an express bus route between the downtowns. Otherwise you can take the light rail to 46th St. and take the bus that picks up there into downtown St. Paul (will take longer and be more complicated than express bus). But in the next couple years the light rail will be finished and you will be able to just take that between the two.

EDIT: Or, exactly what ryn said.

not sure if any local Mpls places run shuttles like some St. Paul bars (O'garas for example). that'd be worth looking into.

damn, i had heard that the light rail would be finished this summer. i also thought that st.paul was closer before moving here because the bus route looks a bit too long.

Taking the girl to Wild vs. Preds on Tuesday, her first Wild game. So anyways, I'm thinking about taking Metro Transit, apparently if you show them your ticket you ride for free? Plus it saves me money on parking. I've been to quite a few Wild games, but I have never been exploring that area. Is there any decent shopping/restaurants somewhat nearby? Other than Cosetta's and TR's.

No shopping down on W. 7th unless you count Maharajas. If you're looking for a nice dinner right by the Xcel in a non-bar setting, there is the Downtowner and Louis on the 3rd floor of the new Cossettas. I can vouch for the Downtowner but I have not been to Louis.

If you wanna head east towards St. Peter (5-8 min walk from Xcel) it opens up a handful of higher-end dining options (Meritage, Kincaids, St. Paul Grille, etc).

Otherwise to the north of the Xcel there is the famous Mickey's Diner Car (great if you're craving breakfast for dinner) and Fuji Ya is a few more blocks north (one of my favorite sushi spots in TC).

Yeah, I've found that Mickey's and Cossetta's are both excellent date options, if your date can appreciate something a little kitschy, fun, and cheap. (Presumably you're not doing anything too fancy, because your big event wouldn't be hockey if you were. ) Really, really, really good food, too.

I am thinking of driving up from Madison to see my first Wild game on Feb 9th. Its a Saturday night and they are playing Nashville. What are the chances I can get cheap tickets from someone selling outside the arena? Or would it be better to buy ahead of time?

Thanks!

If you're driving six hours from Madison, I wouldn't risk it. I'd shell out the money ahead of time.

This. You should be able to find seats at face value the same day but it seems like a bit of an unnecessary risk to take.

I am looking at going to see a wild game and was wondering what part of the rink will give us the best experience.

i was also wanting to see a twins game later this year for a part of a bachelor party and im also wondering what the best place to sit in the new stadium. ( for a party like atmosphere )

I personally love seats in the lower bowl, around row 9, at the ends of the ice behind the goal .... lots of good action usually, and when the plays go to the other end you can just look up and watch on the jumbotron.

Otherwise, you can go wrong with Redline seats in the lower bowl

My favorite is club level if you're into watching the game. If you're into feeling like "part of the game", lower bowl in the corners or behind the net is best. If you want to go to hang out at the bar and/or gab with friends, 200 level.

Try the Budweiser deck at Target Field.

...and I'm merging this with the big MN visiting topic.

If you don't mind standing the whole game the lower bowl SRO tickets are a relatively inexpensive option. You get an assigned spot on the drink rail and get a great view of all the action end to end. Might not be great for groups, but if I'm going to the game alone or with one or two others that don't mind standing it's my go to.

Enjoy Target Field. I have absolutely no interest in baseball, and I loved wandering around during the game. Picked up some cheap $11 tickets a couple minutes before the game and was absolutely shocked how awesome the view was from the nosebleeds.

I usually go for as close to center ice as possible in the upper deck. If you're on a budget you don't get a better view of the action IMO.

Driving down from Thunder Bay to watch the Wild vs Hawks apr 9..have reservations at the holiday inn across from Xcel..thread has been useful.. one thing that interests me is Mystic Lake casino as I like my blackjack..It is quite a ways away from downtown St. Paul wondering what/if there there is a cost affordable way to get there after the game as none of us would be getting behind the wheel at that point

Anyone know that sushi place that Wild players like to go after the game by the X? I promised my girlfriend sushi after the game and she is a sushi junkie!

Oh and fyi for anyone who wants my opinion Tom Reid's is awesome, and I always stay at the Embassy Suites is my favorite hotel to stay at. Complementary happy hour around 5:00 ish and a bus ride to and from the game. And in the morning an amazing breakfast where they will cook you any type of eggs you want!

Mystic Lakes has shuttle busses that can pick people up, though I am not sure at how late. There is a phone number at the bottom of their information page you can call and find out.

Mystic Lake Casino runs a free bus service to and from downtown st paul. Not sure about the times etc. I am sure they are listed on their website.
