If the Hawks won another cup after this trade it wouldn't bother me at all to watch Stalberg and Teuvo devlop into studs for Detroit and stay there the rest of their careers.
When did Backes get traded to Chicago?

Gagner, shultz/Kelfbom, mps, 1st would be the value for Datsyuk. And he's well worth it, but no team will realistically offer anything that big for datsyuk. I wouldn't, just showing the value I think he's worth. I also strongly believe that Shultz will be Norris worthy eventually if that says anything

So Datsyuk's value is something NO TEAM will realistically offer?

You're talking about a 2nd liner (I suppose) and the equivalent of 3 first round picks for a year and a half of his services? To a team that won't win with him anyway?

What's the point?

You are correct. The red wings had it coming . They were too good too long and couldnt keep drafting that low every year and getting away with it.

They could not get enough prospects to replace their older players so all they have left is the older players.

They won 4 stanley cups and near a 5th and 6th in 95 and 2009 so they wont feel too bad about going into some tanking years.

Believe or not but many Wings fans feel we have a strong prospect base. Nothing like Florida, but probably a top 10 pool in the league with enough talent to retool and replace. It's just actually giving them a chance to play that is the problem.

Datsyuk will retire a Red Wing. End of story. I would actually not be shocked to see the Holland try to pick up another Russian to ease the language barrier in the dressing room for Pav.

Long overdue. They way they talk about their team and prospects it's soon coming time to come off the "holier than thou" throne.

I for one can't wait.
What are you even talking about? I realize that years of being a leafs fan has turned you bitter but go look at the Wings boards if you honestly think any Red Wings fan thinks that way. (or has for the past 2-3 seasons).

Swap Shroeder with Tanev and that's actually something I'd consider, if this perfect storm situation ever took place.

I think my team would be more interested in Franzen since we know he will be around longer what would he cost?

Alot.
Datsyuk centering Ryan and Selanne could be amazing.

but I don't see Detroit trading him.

i'd be interested to hear what Detroit would want from ANA for him though

Datsyuk for Grabovski and Franson + 5th.
So a guy who knows 10 words in the English language is gonna mentor an English speaking Canadian?

Try Baertschi + Sieloff + Granlund/Gaudreau likely.

Getting rid of Jbo means not contending for playoffs, and what is the point of getting Dats then? You will straight up need to go prospects if its the Flames.

As if he never had a chance to do so.

From Washington, I guess something like Orlov + Forsberg + 1st at least.

I don't expect them to do it but if they are going to they should do it this year. The return would still be pretty huge if he is more than just a pure rental, which is what he would be if they attempt to do it next year.

Datsyuk does control some of his fate with a partial NTC. But there will be teams and to be honest we don't know how many because this subject hasn't really been flushed out but depending on what that partial protection is that should lead to a decent bidding war.

The notion that certain guys should be Red Wings for life is one that has happened because of success. As painful as it would be if it becomes clear that they truly are in a big downswing here shortly, that is a practice that will have to stop. You can do things like that when you're successful for 20 years, but that was a luxury the Wings had. If Datsyuk wants to retire to Russia in a year and a half and this is a way to fix the team they must explore this option. To not do so would be terrible asset management. At the end of the day I root for the winged wheel on the front of the jersey first, I would wish Datsyuk all the best and it was awesome watching him all these years, but the Wings need to do what is best for them in the long run.

Jensen, Schroeder, Ballard, Schneider

When healthy

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Datsyuk - Kesler

It's seriously embarrassing to be a Wings fan right now. These threads are just ridiculous.

Anyone want Babcock while we're at it ?

There were people discussing this option during the whole off-season. All the lockout did was strengthen the return to Russia after this contract fear. If he will re-sign then this isn't really something to be explored, if not it would be foolish not to figure out what is out there. Especially if the season doesn't go well. I still think they are a playoff team despite the embarrassing opening game, but if they cannot get things back on the rails, blind loyalty isn't going to fix this team.

Stepan + is ok, depending uponwhat the + is, how much overpay we're talking about given he can walk after 1 yr and we will have no cap room by then.

Best fit feels like the Kings.
Appears they have the most assets to deal.

Probably Ryan haha. Not likely? I could see Filppula there but not Datsyuk(and not for Ryan). Could always do it blue jays/marlins style for ya. :p

If Datsyuk was 4 years younger i would consider giving up something significant for him. Unfortunately hes in his twilight years, and while yes hes probably got a few great years of hockey left, the leafs are not built to win a Stanley cup in that time.
