Kovalev looked pretty good with the Panthers. I wouldn't have minded if he had given him a shot, as 2nd line RW is a place we can definitely improve (no offense to Wellwood).

I'm actually surprised we didn't have any players come in on PTO's, considering we had Pesonen and Festerling last year.

Man, nice call. Every time I watched Jersey last season I thought about how great Volchenkov would look on the Jets blueline. Would love him on our roster, especially now... given the glaring lack of Bogosian back there.

That was Kovalev showing up for a game. He'll take 4 of the next 5 off. Don't want him.

The were / may still be a team that wants more offense from the back end.

They will probably get it from Merrill eventually, but I wonder if they would consider a pure hockey trade centred around one of the Jets offensive minded youngsters. Postma would be very useful to a team that can shelter him and needs PP help.

LAK put Anthony Stewart on waivers. VAN puts Jim Vandermeer on waivers.
I have no interest in Stewart, but could Vandermeer be interesting for us?

Volchenkov would definitely be huge for us! I'm not sure they'd get rid of him too easy.
Tallinder would probably be easier to trade for but he's pretty similar to Hainsey (but bit better IMO)

Everyone seems to want nothing to do with Anthony Stewart (or am I getting him mixed up with someone else?)....

I think we have enough defensemen needing sheltering (Stuart, Postma, Redmond, Clitsome)

It's a bit surprising for sure. For a guy who is good for 10-15 goals with bottom six minutes, I can't believe he can't find a home.

I remember being really upset when the Jets decided not to qualify him. I guess they made the right call in the end.

I agree. The Jets should give every available D man a look.

Not sure Vandermeer is a useful player any more, but he has a lot of PK experience and he is a lefty.

Man, considering the complaining when TNSE passed on him last year the guy (Stewart) sure has gotten around, and around. I think he may end up one of those casualties of the lockout, miss half a season and half a step and the next generation comes in and pushes you out.

If the Jets were going to move an asset to get D help, I would personally rather them get a younger guy that can be around for a few years (Volch over Tallinder).

How about Phoenix? Don't they have more capable D men than they can roster?

It's really odd that the Canucks signed this guy a week ago and are already cutting him loose. I just wonder out loud whether a physical no nonsense guy would be nice to have back there. I know him and Stuart are kind of the same player.

To be fair, we haven't seen Redmond play yet. I know he's a rookie, but I'm not sure he'll need sheltering, at least not the same way as Postma and Clitsome.

Trade for Yandle

Agreed about Volch>Talli

I wouldn't mind seeing if they'd be willing to move Runblad or Klesa... Too bad we didn't sign Aucoin when he went FA... CBJ got him for 2.25 mill and he could have challenged and maybe beaten Hainsey for #4...

Funny side-note... Biznasty is listed as a D man in behindthenet.com... lol not like anyone is looking up his stats anyways

Columbus has too many defenders too. They cut Erixon and I think he could legitimately fight for a spot on our 2nd pair.

IMO that would cost too much and leave us with pretty much all offensive D men. I was thinking more of the Schlemko's or Stone's.

Klesla would be a good fit with Bogosian I would think, allowing Hainsey to move down to the 3rd with Stuart. Not that he's not worth it, I just wouldn't want to give up a tonne to get a guy with one year left on his deal after this one. That seems like a move to make when the team is a lot further down the path than we are now.

I guess my questions are, is a guy like Volchenkov available? (no way to know here, just asking). How much does he have in the tank? Does his contract hurt us in anyway going forward?

I would think Volchenkov would be a pretty good fit with Bogosian as well. A pretty good defensive pair, with Bogosian providing some offense.

A former Thrashers fan threw this out on our trade boards. Our fanbase seems split 50/50 on it, but I'm curious what you think. Not sure what your needs are, but like I said, it was a Thrash fan, so I figure he has some idea.

to WPG: Josi, 1st, Ellis, Hornqvist

to Nash: Enstrom , Kane

Hate to lose Josi, but Enstrom and Kane are great.

I would say no. We're giving up the two best players in the deal.

I like Josi and Hornqvist, but not at that price.

I can't see Enstrom or Kane going anywhere unless there's a massive overpayment coming back for them, both in terms of the present, as well as the future.

I don't see that here.

I really like those pieces, but I'm not sure either team would want to make that big of a trade. That would be a huge move that would redefine both team.

I don't think the Jets can afford to give up Kane without getting some major offence in return either.

I think Winnipeg loses that deal in a big way. Anyway you break it up the Jets lose.

We resigned both those guys to longterm deals in the offseason, cant see us trading them.

There's a thread on the main boards about Nino Niederreiter wanting a trade.

I would be ALL over that.
