@GenePrincipe: City officials confirm Gary Bettman was in Edm.Friday for meeting with city.Details not released could mean progress in arena negotiations.
"If you're in favour of having an arena you'll probably feel good and if you're against having an arena you'll probably feel not so good," Anderson remarked.
Be all and end all, it seems the arena could be closer than farther apart. This could be a good week for Oilers fans.
A little birdie told me that his law firm had Katz, Mandell and Bettman at his office on friday and said they laid out the framework for the arena. He said at the city council meeting on Wednesday more will come to light.
I don't want to be nailed to the cross for this, but he seemed pretty confident about it.
I would like to see a new arena. I do understand though that there is road construction that is always falling behind and the LRT expension that seems to be going on forever. A arena is a very expensive project and not something to make rash decisions over. I think the arena will make it's money back very fast. If you look at the stadium alot of big bands sell that out as well as CFL football games and other big events. The people are there the money is there. Katz just needs to have patience and not put ultimatums down. That does not benefit anyone. It'll probably take alot of work between the city and private investors to get the job done and that takes negotiation and time. The arena will come people it's just going to take time.
good news, bout time. the City did a good job of looking out for our interests; they didn't just bend over and take it. they understand that there is a benefit to our city in having this facility and having the NHL. Will Katz make money? yes, why is that bad? having a thriving NHL team in our city is a good thing. in years to come, we will look back and say: 'can you believe this thing almost didn't get built because a huge number of people didn't want it'. the naysayers will be mocked. just like the 'save the Muni' crowd will be ridiculed when life goes on without it.
of course not. but they will feel stupid one day in the future, when they enter that shiney new building to attend a... oh, i dunno, perhaps an Oprah show or a Four Tenors concert.. Will they remember their opposition when they walk in and feel an overwhelming sense of civic pride? will they care that a billionaire is profitting from their attendance?
And if you read really hard, you'll find every single one of their reasons behind being against the arena is built on completely false information. Not one reason on that page has any truth behind it.
Sad, really. They think themselves morally superior but are oblivious to the fact that they have been completely manipulated.
"Last night's Itchy & Scratchy was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever. Rest assured I was on the Internet within minutes registering my disgust throughout the world."
god that quote is 16 years old. The simpsons sure nailed it on that one.
It would still have to be voted on, so let's hope it's palatable to the majority of council. These types of votes make me nervous because there are a few populists on council and we have an election in the fall.
