I think WS is right. Therrien has come into this team with his favorites already picked out.
Well, they actually signed Armstrong and Bouillon just for this specific reason. Both played for Therrien and were already among his favorites back then.
Still, Eller is such a question mark for me. I know most here thinks he never got his chance and that he should be given a more offensive role. I understand it, and I'd love to see him challenged with real offensive duties.
But the thing is, I don't see anything in his play that should prompt a coach to do it. When you watch a young talented player, you usually see that he'd be better with better line mates : he's too fast, too quick, they can't handle his passes, he gets uncovered but the passes never come, etc. I rarely see it from Eller.
Regardless, I'd hate to see him sit out on the 2nd game of the season. Better trade him now.
I remember an interview RDS did with Therrien, they were speaking about Eller, he said Lars needed to play better, get his game to a new level, and needed to be prepared to play on wings, and not 'whine' about it... I don't know if somebody else saw that (was 1 or 2 weeks ago), and I may read too much into this and his physical language, but I got the impression he didn't like Eller a lot...
He is in the doghouse already. This guy will never be a star in NHL, he was almost unseen on the ice Saturday. He do not want to play at his potential, more i think that he do no realise that he has some potential. Prediction, he will not finish the year in Montreal. He will be put on waivers in a near future.

Eller got all the physical tools to play on wing. If he wants to stick at center, he's gonna have to master his faceoffs skills a bit more. He doesn't have the best hockey sense in the World.
We did not have enough for Halak. That is for sure !
The problem was not the DD line (who wasn't supposed to be 1st line anyway), but the absolute lack of secondary scoring.
Keep them together, and let's hope that Bourque-Pleky-Gionta will contribute more than last year.
This is exactly the problem. No successful team does that.
Do the penguins just stack Malkin-Crosby-Neal on the same line ?
Same thing for the hawks do you see Hossa-Toews-Kane?
I didnt mean to direct this a the players themselves. Furthermore, you just proved my point, no secondary scoring.
Another burden would be the utilisation of DD at center. It stuns the progression of two of our most promising player. Not that I don't like the kid or want him traded.
It's either you keep DD at center and you trade Eller or you make place for him either by moving dd to the wing or trading him. But they need to do something, because this will just make us worst in the end.

Holy cow, people need to calm down. Its been one game. I'm sure everything Therrien is doing has a purpose.
Maybe Eller didn't have chemistry with his old linemates. Perhaps putting all the new guys together will help them find their groove on the team.
Point is, we have some really solid PLAYERS but if we want to win, they need to come together so we have a solid TEAM. I think they just need some time to do that.

No. No need to trade Eller, and no need to move DD on the wing. But the opposite is feasible. Eller is made to play on wing.

I got the same feeling from that interview as well. I get the same feeling in regards to PK as well.
Am I the only one thinking that Desharnais played like crap saturday ? I like that Gally is playing center in practice, and especially like that Gallagher is playing with him, and Prust too, but Eller playing with Blunden, that I don't like, especially since I thought he wasn't as bad as Desharnais...
But yeah, whatever helps getting a better pick...
DD was bad kept on giving puck away especially on powerplay,it was very easy for other team to get puck off DD...
Eller wasnt that bad and hope he gets some PP time...

Well, referring to Malkin-Crosby-Neal makes no sense. Habs do not have this kind of players.
But we do have a bunch of 60 to 70 pts scorers. Plekanec, Gionta, Bourque, Desharnais, Cole, Pacioretty. That's also what we all expect Eller to produce in a near future.
We cannot expect from this actual team (unless Galchenyuk becomes a superstar or maybe from Pacioretty ) a 1 point per game player. All we can expect is to have 2 good lines of 60 pts/season players.
We had 1 line of it last season, don't break it, try to create a 2nd one.
I also don't understand how DD stuns the progression of anyone! I mean, nobody gave him the 1st line duty by charity. He won it last year almost as a rookie. Now, it's up to anybody to steal it from him.

Eller is made to be a center. He's completely lost on the freaking wing. He's made to control the damn play, like he's doing when he play's center. For how long have we waited for a big gritty talented center ? God.. Now we have him and he's not good enough so we might move him to the wing.

Now do the same thing for RC and now for MT(can't really say anything about him after one game though..)
Yes they all misused him. Coaches lose their jobs easily in this league, they all try to save their damn job. It's understandable to go with DD wich is a known commodity right now than just give more time to Eller for his developement and wait a year for him to flourish.

C'mon now. Are you comparing our 1st line players to those Pens and Hawks elite players? The latter can turn a mediocre line into a good line. Not so with our players on the first line.
