Avs fans seem certain Bordeleau will play...I'm actually going to pay attention to warmups given Konopka's love of patrolling the center line during that time looking for infractions.

edit: feeling generally pessimistic lately so can't help but put myself in Gilbert's skates. in a season this big, in the opener, on hockey day MN, as a native, would I say "hell yeah I'm ready to go!" if i was, say, 80% healed? Yes, yes I would.

Gilbert's injury didn't sound significant. Sounds like he pulled a muscle or got a charlie horse. I wouldn't be too concerned.

oh, you're right of course, but the more I think of all the little things that could add up to making an insignificant injury turn into a lingering injury...shortened camp, no fitness evals, lack of formal conditioning over the summer, over-excitement about the expectations this team has, the anxiousness knowing it's a short season...As everyone keeps saying: it'll be like a playoff atmosphere every game, and players are expected to play through injuries during playoffs and worry about surgery and rest later.

Paranoia .
too exited (me).

im pretty sure he is just highlighting koivu's mindset and unheralded accomplishments. Koivu is just as big of a cog as ever in this franchise. If his stats inflate according to the talent level of this team, he could become even more important.

Of course Koivu is just as big of a cog as ever... he's the heart and soul of this team, and for Scoggins to think that anyone thinks otherwise... he's out of his mind!

From main boards, not sure if posted yet:

As per http://mirtle.blogspot.ca/2013/01/20...t-and-age.html

Minnesota: Wight: 199.7 (27th heaviest in NHL) Height: 72.7 (24th) Age: 27.5 (25th)

One of the lightest, shortest and youngest teams in the NHL. Spurgeon probably drags us down size-wise, though.

We never get to see what goes on behind the scenes regarding this team and front office. We really don't know how the players are treated or how close everybody truly is. And this is where Harding's insight is very helpful...and great to hear.

"I can't say enough and I can't thank them enough for how good the team has been from the top down," Harding said. This is a family and I can't say enough about each and every guy in here."

I'm not sure if there's a more likeable player than Harding.

Was hoping someone would post a "X state is better than Minnesota at hockey" comment. Time to lay down the law.

Kind of something stupid to post. You know you're going to lose that battle 12 times out of 10.

Speaking of...

Konopka:

Don't lie to us Zenon, you did mean to offend Detroit and we love you for it.

Decent. Still getting used to the new system and new partner, definitely, but he's definitely helped our transition game.

I'm curious to see how his overall season gets viewed while playing without Weber. There are a few camps who have argued over the years that Suter is just as good as Weber, but then a lot of other people who essentially only talk about Weber and forget about Suter. So it'll be interesting to see how he does truly taking on that leadership role.

He's currently paired with with Jared Spurgeon so this is a totally different partner than he is used to. Spurgeon is a slick skater, but is easily pushed around in the corners and in front of the net. These two can either complement each other or Sutter could get caught trying to provide extra coverage for his weaker partner ... as evident last night when Spurgeon got plowed into the boards which made Sutter cheat to the opposite side ... puck came out to Whitney who walked in for an excellent chance to tie the game.

as was said before me, Suter has looked "decent". That said, he's working with a lot less. Even if people are overly high on Spurge here he isn't at Weber's level and really he's a completely different kind of player...its a huge adjustment over what, say, Parise has to make.

that said, he's still been our best defenseman, just edging out Gilbert IMO. Two games in, and he looked better game two than game one--he'll be in all-star form by midseason.

Suter looked better in the opener than he did last night. At least to me he did.
