Could probably be had for a late 2nd-ish or a young defensive center prospect or equal value. If you flip him for that, call it a day.
I see no logjam. I see unproven players behind Sulzer in NHL expierence. There is no reason to put them in the lineup right now.

A 2nd is a nice offer, but why take the chance? I'd consider it, but I'm in no rush to do it.

I think Sulzer is worth more to the Sabres than what anyone would be willing to give up. I think they would need to be really impressed (the classic "overwhelmed") with an offer to move him.

He's likely not worth a high level prospect, but for the Sabres to get a commensurate return, they would likely be looking for much more than spare parts. It's kind of a unique situation.

Based on salary alone, Leopold is much liklier to be available than Sulzer.

Since the Sabres are in no position to take salary or defensive prospects back in any deal, how about...

To

D Jordan Leopold ($3M UFA)
C/W Luke Adam ($875K RFA)

To

C/W Patrice Cormier ($854K RFA)
2013 2nd RND pick
2014 conditional 3rd RND pick
(if Leopold re-signs for 2+ yrs.)

Leopold is a good piece, but IMO the Jets are in bigger need of a big, stay at home defensive D man to play on the 2nd pair. From a fit perspective, Leopold doesn't really fit the mold.

I think it's pretty good value, but I don't know that either team does it. WPG probably would be looking for more of a stay-at-home guy, and Buffalo likely doesn't think about moving a top 6 d-man until the trade deadline if it looks like they're out of playoff contention. Or at least until they get a chance to see if Brennan or Weber could handle regular NHL minutes.

Jets need more of a stay at home defenseman so Leopold, while the better of the two, simply is not a need for the JETS.

I'd be somewhat interest in Weber as a consolation, but not sure if he is indeed enough of an improvement on what they've already got.

Yeah, I don't think Weber does anything better than what Stuart already does for us.

Do the Jets have a face off specialist that they would be willing to part with?

Yeah. If anyone inquires about Sulzer, Darcy's been a damn genius since Pegula bought the team (I guess that's more of an opinion), and he's going to demand at least a 2nd. There isn't a GM in the league who would give that up at this point..so he stays put, and I can't say I'm upset about it. The Buf-Van deal at the deadline was essentially Hodgson for Kassian, and Sulzer for Gragnani...and Grags was waived lol. I've got no problem giving a "throw away" some ice time if he's performing.

Edit: I would probably do Slater for Sulzer, or something centered around that. Hate to see Sully go, but it fills Buffalo's need for a guy who can win faceoffs.

Weber is going nowhere

Brennen by not playing is not gaining trade value

both of the above are cheap.

Likely to get traded ---Leopold because of being a UFA after the season.

Sekera can also be gotten but for more.

Buffalo will have a problem if they keep Grigorenko and then Gerbe and MCormick are healthy. Ellis can be sent down....but after that a D-man has to be moved.
