Carl Gunnarsson

Just wondering what teams would be interested, and what they'd be willing to give up.

Pointless question, we aren't trading him.

Blues would be interested.

Blues wouldn't be willing to give up what the Maple Leafs want.

St. Louis and Toronto do not make good trading partners are the present time.

Any chance St.Louis would be willing to negotiate a deal around 1 of

Oshie
Steen
Berglund

??

Not at all so it's pretty much not going to happen.

Agreed. How much do you guys value Berglund? (just curious). If any team were to inquire, what would be the asking price?

He's basically untradeable unless we are upgrading our center position with a true number one coming back to knock Backes down to our number 2 center spot. The Blues are actually week at center playing Steen as the number 3 center when Steen actually plays much better on the wing.

No point in moving Gunnarson unless we're getting an upgrade at C, D or in goal which would mean we'd be using Gunnarson as:

A. Part of a package or for a player with a higher salary (i.e. like White leaving to bring in Phaneuf a few years back) OR

B. To a team that can't fit that player into their salary structure anymore (i.e. Chicago purging their team a few years ago).

Gunnarson isn't untouchable by any means but the Leafs certainly shouldn't be shopping him.

I'm not convinced that Gunnar isn't a trade possibility. The Leafs have a lot of Defensive Depth and we don't know yet how Gunnar fits in with Carlyle's style of play.

I wouldn't have any issue whatsoever if he's traded for a young skilled forward or Goaltender still on an ELC or about to turn pro.

Gunnarsson is our best defensive D. Next comes Phaneuf. Then Komisarek. Our D after this are all OFD. So sure we have depth in the position, but then again we had depth at C to start the year. It doesnt mean its the kind of depth you want.

Take Gunnarsson out of the Leafs D and you'll see his true value.

He's worth far more to the Leafs than any team is willing to give up. These threads pop up and there's never anything realistic that's enough to get the deal done.

yeah his true value when he leaves the leafs would be around a 5th or 6th for his true value. Trade him now while his value is high with a low cap hit. reliable d man the best on the leafs right? how sad.

I imagine Leafs fans will be a lot more willing to move him after his performance tonight.

Not so great without Dion.

Stop it. The Leafs can't get rid of a defenceman. They don't need to be trading on of their most solid defenders.

Gunnar won't be going anywhere, he's the only "rock solid" D the Leafs really have. He just goes about his business and does his job, you need those guys.

Ummm.... We have a little bit of a log jam at D....

Phaneuf
Gardiner
Liles
Franson
Gunnarsson
Kostka
Komisarek
Holzer

With propsects like Blacker, Reilly, Percy, Finn, MacWilliam all showing potential to make the big show.

Out of that list, Liles, Franson, Gunnarsson, Kostka, Komisarek and Holzer are the ones I'd guess the leafs would be willing to trade if the offer was right.

Kostka just 'broke' out. Teams don't quite know what his value is/will be... so He's probably out of the equation. Similar issue with Holzer atm too.

Komisarek has a high contract, so wouldn't get much value in return, which is why we may just end up keeping him.

This leaves Liles, Franson and Gunnarsson as tradeable assets. If I was a betting man, I'd put money on at least one of these players getting traded this season. I', just wondering what other teams would want Gunnarsson, and what his value would be.

I'd do a trade surrounding Gunnarsson and Stewart if St. Louis was interested.

To Toronto:
Chris Stewart
Max Gardiner

To St. Louis:
Carl Gunnarsson
Clarke MacArthur
3rd 2012

???

Dion and Kostka say hi, both being far better defensively than Gunnar in the first two games.

Komisarek was better defensively in Montreal too (didn't play vs. Buffalo)

who is max gardiner? is he jakes brother? is he any good or is it just for the sake of putting brothers on the same team?

i dont make this deal if im the leafs. stewart has been struggling since he went to st louis and while i like him macarthur puts up comparable numbers and then we add gunnarson and a 3rd? meh, id do one of gunnarson or mac + for stewart but not both.
