A couple players I have heard nothing about and was wondering where they are, as I was sure they'd have to be on waivers at some point: Joey MacDonald and Rusty Olesz. Shouldn't these guys have been on waivers and where are they?

Yeah, my bad, I actually just meant "Winchester can't make any NHL team?" but put the Flames because that's who his tryout was with. This guy has fallen a long way that he can't even get signed by anyone.

Olesz failed his physical:

I'm not really sure what it means for his status: if he has to be waived? if he's headed to the IR? Haven't heard anything else since.

Olesz would have to be an IR if he's hurt.

So are we expecting more waivers today even though the season starts? I know rosters are set but some guys could be claimed even at noon today

waiver process unclear

[QUOTE=Rivet52;57842437]All cleared, per Dreger.

https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/sta...79680442654721[/QUOTENot sure how the waiver process happens. If a player is on on a two way conttact 24 years old with 2 1/2 years of ahl experience'and no nhl experience what would cause him to be put on waivers

can you specify which player you are talking about?

here is a short guide to waivers: http://capgeek.com/faq/how-do-regular-waivers-work

There are basically 3 factors to worry about:
1. Age they signed their first contract
2. How many years it's been since they signed their first contract
3. How many NHL games played.

*Age refers to the player's age on december 31st of that league year, not their actual age on that day.
*for players who play games under the age of 20, it only counts as a season if they play 11 or more games.

note that being on a 2-way contract has no effect. Games played in the AHL have no effect.

Expected of Stewart, didn't expect it for Vandermeer as much though.

Only Canucks D that could be sent down and not cost against the cap, they are trying to bring up Schroeder.

It could have been Barker who is not on a two-way but makes $900k...Vandermeer is on a two-way.

Maybe, but he passed through waivers last year without being claimed.

Vandermeer is probably going to be claimed by the Sharks if no one picks him up.

Honest question: but why didn't the Sharks re-up him for the 700K Vancouver is paying him if they would be interested? Not trying to start anything, but I remember him being with SJ during the 2011 WCF, but can't remember why he wasn't kept around.

Kings picking up Vandermeer would make sense. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind if the Bruins put in a bid for him either.

Even if Vandy isn't the answer in LA, I think they have to take him short-term.

Maybe if it were a normal January with teams running into injury problems, but with everyone pretty healthy I doubt Stewart gets the call. He just isn't a very good player.

Florida is pretty injured right now: Versteeg, Goc, & Bergenheim are all out with some kind of injury (Versteeg was just placed on IR). Not sure that they go down that road again with Stewart but I wouldnt mind taking a chance on him. He'd be better in the lineup than Mike Santorelli has been I'm sure.
