Really? He complained about the two high-sticking calls? I don't seem to remember that. That leaves the horrible call against Chara in OT and the toe-pick that was called a trip.

Steigerwald is hilariously worse than Edwards by a country mile.

Atleast Edwards calls the opponent's goals with relatively the same excitement as he would for a home team goal. And then gives them credit for making a nice play. Steigerwald would gently say "scores" and then make some vain rationalization at how that goal shouldn't have happened and was a fluke.

Also I would take any of Edwards stupid one-liners (ie. a "Johnny Rockets!") over ****ing, "make me a milkshake, Malkin" & "Slap me silly, Sidney."

At least Edwards is passionate when he calls a game. His color guy is far worse than he is.

All 4 of them? Also no he didn't. Brickley complained about the high sticking on Boychuk at the end of the game saying you could argue follow through and it was a rough penalty to call in that situation and they both hated the call on Chara in OT because it was frankly a terrible call.

When Jack Edwards commentated US soccer games for the 2002 World Cup, he was amazing and memorable

When he commentates for the Bruins, he has the same emotion, but a bit more delusional

I would actually like to see Jack Edwards do a games not involving the Bruins so he can't be so bias.

Jack Edwards + McGuire on NBC, man that would be amazing to think of it.
That's when I'd start punching forks in my ears.

I understand that Bruins fans love him. But you have to remember not everyone has as good of a handle on the game as the diehards. It's not good for up and coming Bruins fans to listen to this guy and take what he says to heart, he's a homer assembly line.

nowhere near the homers Fred Cusick and Johnny Pierson were for the Bruins in 70s/80s. I watch old hockey fights from that era and a Bruin get knocked silly and they'd still declare him the winner.

As a neutral fan, i love listening to his calls. Maybe a bit over the top and radically bias, but at least it is entertaining.

Yes, because home town fans watching a home town broadcast shouldn't listen to an announcer with a bias for the home town team.

---

I'm curious about what makes his PBP 'fictitious'.

I am a Bruins' fan and I agree. I ask myself if he is given a script because at times I think he is questioning my vision.

I pay no mind mostly or laugh at him.

This guy's a legend, brings such an interesting twist and approach, love him. The haters going to hate since they just want the boring ways of the usual guys. It's good to see such homerism from home commentators and one who's so damn entertaining, most parts of the World it's way more radical and Hockey finally has an answer.

For me it would be because NHL Network often puts games on it's network using regional feeds and the NBC networks also use their CSN affiliate's broadcasts for games including playoffs.

It is incredibly annoying to get stuck with an overly bias announcer without the ability to switch, which is one thing i really love about gamecenter if i don't like the announcer. I really wish if the NHL used these regional feeds for national games they would lift blackout rules on center ice and gamecenter.

He's very bias, but he's an announcer for the Bruins' network. He has to be. It's not like he's working for NBC. Speaking of NBC, if he ever called a national game between 2 neutral teams, I think he'd earn a lot of respect.
My only question is whether anyone remembers him calling games on ESPN 2, and if so, did he seem like a good broadcaster when the bias aspect is not there (ie Bruins not involved).

Ha, as someone whose first language isn't English, thank you. It sounded pretty odd to me but then again, so many guys were using it.
So thanks for clearing that up.

Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley are amazing commentators. They are also not bias when it comes to gameplay. Jack only shows his true Bruins colors when it comes to fights and hits.

Edit: He's also pretty popular. He gets his own weekly/bi-weekly thread on hfboards. What other announcer has this rep?

I was watching the Bruins game today and I had to do it on a NESN stream because it was sexy quality compared to the TSN one so I switched off the commentary after a while and watched the game while listening to the Marek vs Wyshynski podcast.

1) The Bruins are part owners of the channel he works for.

2) He's a blatant homer for sure, but he's such a dweeb that he can be entertaining at times.

First Edwards thread of the year?

Surprised a thread wasn't made about him last game.

Edwards knows his hockey, and is exciting to listen to, which is why most Bruins love the guy. Edwards's one job is to entertain Bruins fans, and he does his job well.

Let the haters keep hating.
