Yup. Wasn't impressed. What did you think of Sulzer? It's hard to get a read on him from what he was like here to what he is now. Looks the same to me.

I think he might be a slower skater than Alberts which is quite an accomplishment.

Looks ok, fairly reliable. Doesn't seem to be getting very difficult minutes and not playing too much either (just looked at TOI, 14-ish minutes so comparable to Ballard) but I'm not very far into the game. Honestly, seems to me like Sabres fans are overrating him since they got him for free.

Also, I know you asked about Laughton in the prospects thread... I don't like him in the NHL right now. He doesn't look anywhere near ready to me. Weak on face-offs against a team that's not very good at them and just barely keeping up with the play defensively. Bringing some energy and running around a lot, but not getting much done. He'll probably be a comparable pro to Gaunce one day, although I do think Gaunce has higher offensive upside. (And I know Flyers' fans have a different opinion on this... they seemed pretty happy with his play.)

On the whole, for me, Flyers are up there as one of the most overrated teams right now. I don't see them as a contender. IMO they're overdoing it with the youth movement.

Yeah, it's hard to tell what Sulzer is doing so differently than he did here. Seems the same, which wasn't good enough to crack this roster...

I liked Laughton's ability with the puck. It seems like he can move with it and do something as a play develops. Trying too hard. Agree about the defense, but he's an NHLer for sure.

Gaunce seems like a tactician in the Dzone. So poised and smart. I didn't get that from Laughton (ohl). He's good, but not at that level. Speaking of defense, Rakell really impresses me. Kid knows how to play a pro game.

Say what you want about Edwards' blatant homerism, but he's quite the wordsmith.

Yeah, there are some pretty quotable moments that make you say that.

In other news, Brett Clark, a Better Defenseman Than Cam Barker, signed in the AHL today.

I don't think this needs to be said, but I'd much rather have Clark than Barker. If we signed him now would he have to go through re-entry waivers?

You can see why Boston fans adore him. I feel bad for anyone in New England who isn't a Bruin, though.

Tarasenko is filthy. Blues robbed the Senators blind with that trade for Rundblad. Said as much at the time...

No joke, this kid is the most dangerous rookie I've seen in recent memory. He's reminiscent of a prime Jagr watching him dart around the offensive zone tonight. Just filthy hands and speed and ability to read the play.

An assist on the PP. He's unstoppable. His hockey IQ is off the charts.

4 periods in the NHL, 4 points so far. My mind is boggled watching how good this kid is. Every time he's on the ice he reminds me of Jagr.

The new Gretzky?

Anyhow, Greene out for rest of the year likely and Mitchell out for awhile too. Kings will be playing a lot more 5-4 games this year. Probably spells the end of the Quick-hype train too.

Wow. How's his defensive game? As a rookie playing on a Hitchcock team, that's always going to be the question. Also, is he playing on their top line or something?

Another goal for Hodgson.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him score at a 30 goal pace...

Funny enough, that Hodgson goal was a deflection off an Ehrhoff shot. His fellow point-man? Former Canuck Sulzer. Its an all butt-hurt goal

Are they still all gung ho on Scrivens?

I asked Coach Hottie (aka the professional goalie evaluator and coach) about Scrivens. Apparently his glove is awful, he expends too much energy making 'flashy' saves and he plays way too deep. Opposite of the Allaire-blocking style of Reimer, but nothing more than average, and that's being generous.
