Value of Ryder

Just curious as to Ryder's value, and what it would take for Pittsburgh to get him.

I'd say a noted playoff performer coming off a 35 goal season with an expiring, reasonable contract (3.5 million) has quite a bit of value as a rental. If he were traded I'd expect a 1st round pick coming back.

He won't be moved.

But if he were to be, I'd want Kennedy + D prospect + 2nd.

Not cheap. But if Morrow can end up taking his place, or we're out of it at the TD, he should be available, but not now.

Any interest in one of the Pens D prospects (Morrow, Dumoulin, Maatta, Pouliot, etc)? I'd be hesitant to give up a 1st in this years draft. Should be a deep draft, and the Pens are really lacking in quality forward prospects.

I'd do Ryder for Morrow or Pouliot. I like Ryder but that's a good D prospect for a soon to be UFA.

I'd do TK and one of the prospects. Maybe a 3rd if needed.

I'd definitely expect a 1st or a prospect equivalent to one.

I think Dallas should take a look at Orpik. One more year at $3.75 mil, and he brings that hard-nosed defensive edge that can only help our weak backend.

Of course, they'd have to sweeten the deal, considering our recent track record for trading forwards to Pittsburgh for their d-men.

I'd definitely like to see them go after Orpik.

Depending on what some of our D do this year, I could handle moving Orpik.

Good enough to offer him a new contract before the deadline. He's a solid, scoring winger presence we really need right now. In a season and half? Trade him for a pick.

Funny thread.

As a Habs fan, a clearly remember back in the days when every trade talks would begin with : Ryder + Halak + 2nd rounder.

I would do Ryder for Morrow for sure. Or any one of those guys. Just not sure Pitt would. Would they?

Loaded with D prospects and needing a winger. I wouldn't rule it out.

Seems like a fit for sure, and if they wanted a 3rd or something as well I'd do it. I really like Simon Despres too but he's a roster player now and doing well so he's a little beyond that "prospect" title I think.

I really think this is the time we cash in our chips. Our chips being veteran players. Not all of them, and not right now, but at deadline. It sucks though being in playoff contention (sucks but doesn't suck if you know what I mean). Means we maybe hold on to all those guys rather than maximize value for them in trades.

Morrow or Despres for Ryder seems very reasonable.

Hell what about one of those kid defenders from Nashville?

He's been a great linemate for two of our kids, Eakin and R. Smith so in a way I'll be sad to see him go because he's helping them but for that kind of return I'd do it in a heartbeat. Those are two good young defenders who would be playing on our blueline tomorrow.

Lots of teams would want him which is why I think you could get a good prospect for him, Roy, or Jagr if not all three depending where we are in the standings.

There will be a market for him, but Pittsburgh would be insane to trade somebody like Despres for a few weeks of Ryder. I think we can get a 1st and that should be the goal, but expecting an NHLer or Eakin type nearly there prospect is bananas.

If someone's buying, trade him now. You'll get more value since he'll play for his new team longer, and this hot streak can't hurt at all.

I think R. Smith has proven that he can take the spot in the top 6, or you could try Fraser there and let Smith take the spot if he doesn't work out this season. Regardless, we can afford to move him at this point.
