Colin Greening to NYR

What would Ottawa be looking to get for him?

On our board I suggested something like a 2nd + a prospect like Fogarty/McColgan/Thomas. Is the value too far off? I understand Ottawa isn't exactly rebuilding.

Ottawa needs defensemen. If we're trading prospects, they should be defensemen. Unfortunately, the Rangers aren't as strong when it comes to defensemen prospects as they were in previous years. IMO Skjei or McIlrath are overpayment on the Rangers part. Maybe something around Sam Noreau or Calle Andersson?

Big, fast, strong with good character. Why would Ottawa want to get rid of him?

The only hole on the Senators roster might be a top four defenceman. That's what it would take.

Don't think he'll be moved, his contract is such a steal and he can play in any situation.

Ottawa is pretty well stocked for prospects right now so it would take a lot to tempt us.

Before the season started I would have said a #5-6 D but for now I think the Sens want to wait and see what they've got.

If Michael Sauer were healthy that might have been the basis of a fair trade. Little to no interest in prospects or draft picks.

Don't let us making the playoffs last year fool you. Management themselves have said we are in year 2 (this year) of a 3 year rebuild plan. We simply overperformed last year.

As others have said, our main need is a top 4 Dman, ideally a young one to fit in with the rebuild, a Hjalmarsson type of guy, but I don't think you have a guy like that you'd be willing to part with, so likely no deal to be had here.

What about your first this year, since it's likely to be very low, maybe with a 4th coming back from Ottawa with Greening?

I really don't like the idea of trading Greening.

I'm not saying he's worth a lot or he's untouchable, but there is less than zero reason to trade the guy.

He very versatile. He plays 1st line and 3rd line minutes. He's fast, big, he hits, and he backchecks. He's not a great goalscorer but he's a good complementary player and he's paid peanuts. He's not old.

There's essentially no reason to trade him unless it was to plug a hole, and the Senators are playing great right now even with the defensive injuries.

Similar age NHL defenseman but would much rather not trade him.

Yeah I just don't see any reason why Ottawa would trade him.

His individual value is far less than what it would take to get him most likely and he's not making a lot of money.

He's not a guy you want in your top-6, but can play there in a pinch, due to his size and speed. He's very versatile, can play PK and PP if needed.

Top-4 defenseman? I think that's a bit too much, but I understand that is a hole that Ottawa needs to fill. Just no deal to be made here.

No way he's moved.

Greening - Smith - Neil is too good a line to break up right now and management loves the guy.

This, not to mention he is one of the hardest workers.

2nd + is probably an overpay IF he was to be moved. That being said, he was one the key reason's Foligno became expendable. We can't afford to move him too.

If he was being shopped for whatever reason I think he his value would be 2nd + Calle Andersson. That being said, I doubt the organization moves him for anything less than an upgrade.

Why?

I mean I like Greening but enough with the new guys, just let the team ferment for a little awhile. We have 5 new players and it's obvious from watching them that chemistry between the forwards is a step behind right now.

Yup, I have to ask why trade Greening as well. He fits very well with the team in a position that needs him. Pulling him out for a draft pick is a bad idea and will not be done unless it is a clear win. ie top 8-15 pick.

I like Colin Greening and all, but no one is giving us a a high 1st round draft pick for him.

Not unless he can figure out a way to put up 60 points doing third line ice time.

Greening not going except for upgrade.
We don't seem to fit with correct parts.

I think we can do 3 way w/Hawks
Hjalmarsson + X to Ottawa
Boyle + Y to Chicago
Greening + Z to Rangers

but no time now to solve for x, y, z...........

How are picks+plus an overpayment?

Less then 50% of 2nd rounders become NHL players...

Let alone the ability/athleticism that greening possesses.

We'd be looking at a top 4 d or he isn't moving.
