Roman Voloshenko...The Power Forward???

Quote:
Aggressive and physical, Voloshenko will battle hard in the corners and possesses a strong, hard wrist shot. A solid work ethic and the skills to become a successful power forward may earn him a shot in the NHL next season.
I thought he was more of a finasse winger. Guess not. Wow...I guess we do have a good PF in our lineup.

Dubes,

Where'd you find that quote? Maybe we'll see for ourselves this fall in camp.

During his draft year I actually heard a "European Andrew Brunette" comparison. I can't remember where I heard that from. I think a pf is a stretch, but he does sound like a sniper with a fair amount of grit.

I would like either him or Parrish to be in our lineup this season as our PP garbage goal scorer. Im still for draft a PF if one is available at a good spot but I dont want to pick bad out of need, let Volo get his shot and see how it goes

Physical Play: Likes to play physical hockey...fights hard in the corners...very effective at the junior level, and has become increasingly more effective towards the end of the 2003-04 season with the Soviet Wins in the High League (Russia 2).

I think I remember that too, although I think it was meant more as a knock on his skating than a compliment to his work down low, could be wrong. We could be so lucky if he turns out to be a Euro-Bruno...man did we miss his presence along the boards and behind the net last year.

Are we looking at a Dino type power forward. Just a garbage man?

I wish the Aeros would have video highlights available. (That's not a totally random comment.. it would be nice to see how Voloshenko played...)

edit: Hey, they do! Kinda crummy quality though... (beggar instantly turned to chooser)

Volo played well down here in houston pretty much all season long. depending on who the wild sign in the off-season (and we all know how agrressive this team is historically in the off-season!!!) I'll be surprised if we get him again next year. Which sucks for us, because we've already lost our top scorer to Europe next year, and O'Sullivan should get a pretty long look with the Wild as well as Eric Reitz, Matt Foy, and of course Josh Harding. Oh well, that's the nature of being the farm team.

Anyway, back to Voloshenko: he pretty much comes as advertised. Plays well down low, can get a lot of "garbage" goals that still seem to count just as much as Gaborik breakaways on the scoreboard. Not sure if Volo's got the strength to be a consistent contributer in the NHL yet, tho. And a power forward? Probably not, at least not yet.

welcome to the boards FoyBoy, there's always room for more Aeros firsthand scouting reports.

Wait, we've lost Kirby Law? That certainly ruins my day. Now who'll star in our horribly bad playoff intro videos?

To add my two cents about Voloshenko, I think he'll be with the Aeros next season. He tore up the beginning of the last season until he left to play with Russia in the WJC's and never really matched that level when he came back, in my opinion. This was also when O'Sullivan began to replace him as the team's godlike rookie.

Don't get me wrong, I like him and think he's got great skill (playing the first two months on Westrum and Law's line didn't hurt either), but I think guys like Foy and O'Sullivan stand a better chance of getting the call. Besides, I wouldn't make such a big deal about him if he wasn't someone I didn't mind losing.
