Flames fan.

Here's the basic overview of what I've seen from Karlsson in two years:
- He's an intense guy. I mean, really intense. Every goal he's frustrated with giving up. This is the same guy you can look up in a wide variety of gifs online. I suspect he's a nice guy to have around the locker room
- He's big. Massive. And not slow for his size.
- His initially stopping technique is solid.
- The problem is that he has a lack of rebound control of any kind. He's much more of a first stop goalie with absolutely no plan on stopping the second. He'll scramble and sometimes lose track of his net. These mostly pop up when he starts letting goals in and is a little inexperienced with dealing with the adversity that can occur with being an NHL goalie (this being his 3rd season in the NHL and all), though his far pad away from the shooter (though his right leg on a right winger and left leg on a LW) will also cause those massive rebounds I was talking about above.
- He also has a tendency to drop on every single shot. Despite being built close to a human mountain, the fact that he does makes him vulnerable in any league for top shelf goals. If it happens, it's a goal.

For what you paid for him (and what Calgary paid for him two years ago, a 6th), he's a good deal. I hope you have some luck with him. It sounds like you really need goaltenders of any form.

Not what we need in a 1B but it'll do as a short term replacement to Emery. This would be the time to go through with the waiving.

This may be hard to hear coldsteel, but Karlsson isn't replacing Emery. It's a depth move and it's giving Rockford more than 1 competent goalie in the AHL.

I could see Karlsson playing if Emery continues with last night type of performances, but for now it is definitely for the AHL.

That's fine but why should Rockford get the better of the two?

In 9 games, Henrik Karlsson had a 3.17GAA and a .899Sv% last year with Calgary. He's alot bigger than Emery, but there's no evidence to suggest he's "better".

The size intrigues me on the Hawks. Emery brings no upside; he's been here.

eh, so maybe a backup, backup goaltender for a 7th round pick?

Hard to feel anything about that....

I actually liked his potential years ago but he never got much of a chance with Flames over last few years because Kipper plays every game pretty much and Karlsson never took step forward in his technique

Overall a move to improve Rockfords goaltending with not much potential to effect Hawks G situation

Hawks goalies are performing brutal in AHL ,, Karlsson is vet of both NHL and AHL so he should stablize the position there

I am starting to feel as though this is more toward Rockford. Even though it is for the Hogs, maybe Emery will take notice anyway.

Just read on the AHL board that the Flames other minor league goaltender just set a consecutive shutout record that's stood for over half a century.... wonder if that played a role in the Flames giving him up?

He was not part of Flames plans and they likely moved him to give him chance to play a role somwhere else

Hawks need upgrade in Rockford and having a guy with some NHL experience in event of injury is good

Moving teams doesn't suddenly give an old guy 'upside'.

Karlsson is 14 months younger than Emery and 2 years older than Hutton.

Barry Brust, who is the same age as Karlsson and on his fourth NHL organization. Played 11 games w/ LA in 2006-07.

For a big goalie, he isn't very good at covering the top part of the net. His fundamentals are very, very poor. This should be a move exclusively for Rockford; Karlsson cannot be relied upon to win an NHL game.

That sounds about right. It was a minor league deal.

Hopefully Stan is actively looking for an upgrade in the Hawk nets. Bishop remains the one to target, imo .... Bernier if he becomes available, which I doubt.

Chicago should be looking for a quality goaltender with NHL experience, not young goaltenders with potential.. not that Bishop is young, he's 26 and will be 27 this year.
