No shot at Bailey for Ballard. We have Streit, Hamonic possibly Visnovsky in a few weeks, and then tons of mediocre defense. MacDonald, Martinek, Strait, Hickey, Finley. Young players like Donovan and Ness who can step in. Why would we want to add another for a guy who many Islander fans still believe in?

Why would the Islanders take Ballard after claiming 3 defenders on waivers?

Isles think they will get Vis over in 2 weeks because he's not allowed to play pro hockey anywhere else at this point. He'll bump Martinez to the #5 spot.

The isles aren't trading a key player this season, that the coaches and front office like, to address potential holes in the 2013-2014 defense.

The only way the Isles are in the mix for Ballard, is if they strike out elsewhere in the summer.

Well maybe we are looking if Gillis could swing it with Aquillini. I think this might work better for both (as long DiPietro isn't hurt AGAIN!)

To NYI - Ballard + 4th round draft pick

To Vancouver - either Nielsen (or Bailey+) and Rick DiPietro (where Van uses there Compliance buyout on him and saves Wang mad cash).

It is basically paying a lot to get rid of DiPietro but it save Wang from paying out the contract and maybe they can re-sign DiPietro to a smarter deal.

Once again... DiPietro won't get traded OR bought out. Insurance is paying his contract and it helps us get to the cap floor, plus Wang LOVES him (Mainly because he bleeds blue & orange). There's no plan, nor will there be a plan, for the Isles to buy DiPietro out.

I could get on board with that offer.

In another thread I floated the Idea of Ballard for Viz and pick or prospect. Maybe wisheart?

That's simply not true. If he were to RETIRE DUE TO INJURY then insurance pays.

I wouldn't want Ballard for the reluctant Vis alone, nevermind the isles adding something.

Isles need Vis to add scoring from their blueline, the pp. Ballard will not do that.

And yes,Vis sounds like he'll be on LI in another 14-16 days.

Ballard and a 1st for Josh Bailey and Matt Martin?

Why do we do this?

That's not secondary scoring, that's AHL scoring.

Double true and isles fans who are suggesting Ballard and a pick isn't enough for and (barely) top 9 forward aren't being realistic. I take that deal in a second and run away.

Most NYI fans won't howl over moving Bailey if they get a solid return, but 22 yr old Martin brings energy and swagger to the lineup, so no interest in moving him for a d-man most are meh over acquiring /or a first that is likely a couple of yrs from contributing.

It's about filling a need. The Isles need a top 4 dman who they can control for 3+ years. That's not Ballard. They also need big bodies that play physical, since their top 6 is pretty soft. A 1st rounder in the 24-28 range that wont pay dividends for 3-4 years isn't likely enough to give up a guy like Martin, who they like very much, has a good contract and is contributing now.
