The Oilers need a player like Benn if their going to win a cup. There was a comment a year ago, where one player came out and said that the easiest team to play against is the Oilers.

Doesn't this worry anyone?

No. They just need to add more size.

All of Benn/Hall/Eberle/Nugent-Hopkins/Yakupov/J.Schultz signed for years to come without any problems.
I'm not even against getting rid of most of the players you want to get rid of... yet that lineup looks much worse than they have now.

They'd have to make some other moves obviously because that's not looking like an overall improvement.

The Oilers will have plenty of cap space with that lineup. So it's not like the Oilers will have to contend with that lineup.

Enough money to make one big upgrade with the forwards or defence.

It's "easy" to play us when RNH/Hall/Eberle still have their puppy teeth and Yakupov and Schultz weren't in the picture.

Will be a different story now that we've added two more studs and RNH/Hall/Eberle are getting more mature.

Agreed that we need more toughness, but teams are already taking notice I think of us.

Was listening to the Flames post-game show (am in Calgary, have no choice) and they were interviewing Logan Couture and he went out of his way to say they had to be very careful playing the Oilers (next game) because of all the skill we now possess.

He kind of said it in a "yeah we beat Calgary, but man, we got the Oilers coming up" type of way, lol.

Does anyone think we should pluck Vandermeer off waivers?

I like him better than Potter or Peckham at this point, and we could use the defensive depth with the shortened season.

I know the Sharks were talking with him before he signed with Vancouver, so I imagine someone will claim him.

Several here wanted Vandermeer for the Oilers before they signed Fistric but I think that ship has sailed. I don't think adding yet another #6/#7 dman is necessary when we're already fighting over Potter/Fistric and soon Peckham when he comes back.

I doubt the Oilers add him either. As it is they'll possibly have to waive a dman if everyone is healthy at the same time. (Unlikely as that may be on the Oilers. )

The time to pick up Vandermeer is long gone.

If we wanted him we could have sign him while he was still a UFA.

Smyth on the 2nd line is an instant fail.

So you want to sign Benn to a contract over $8,410,976 per year? Cause that is the only contract we can offer him that he'd sign. We don't have our 3rd anymore and most RFA compensation requires one.

And then there's that whole, not wanting to play in Canada thing.

People need to give up the Benn fantasies.

LA used 6d only thru playoffs - now lose Greene for yr, Mitchell uncertain return , lose depth (Hickey)on waivers-Lombardi may have to deal
*sniff*... *sniff*... do I smell a Peckham trade? We'd have to put him into some games first, though, and that might be painful to watch. Also I think it was mentioned he'd be re-doing his physical today, I wonder how that went.

How many doctors should Peckham see before the trade.

The same ones they used for Fraser... LA won a cup after that critical acquisition.

I wonder if Lombardi sent Tambo a box of chocolates as a makeup gift? Maybe a box of pancake mix is more appropriate.

Smyth - Horcoff - Glencross?

Glencross - Belanger - Jones?

Would be sweet. We made a huge mistake letting him walk and I called it all the way to the bank, but who knows - might see him again if we're lucky.

At the rate he's going he'll be the next captain of the Flames.
