I like this. Its not Meth, but it'll do.

Thanks for the info, good to know. Also, nice to see Columbus get a win last night.

I hope he finds his consistency in Ottawa. He had some big games for us, but also some lulls. Foligno looked pretty good last night, the PP goal was a nice redirection. He can carve out some space in front of the net, thats for sure.

Maybe this is a win/win?

Seems that way. Despite what some will say about Foligno here, was a good young player who was well on his way into becoming a hard nosed top 6 forward. But the truth is we really, really needed the help on D, and we had the depth at forward to give up an asset like Foligno.

This is one of those trades I can see both sides still being really happy with 2 or 3 years later.

But assuming Methot can play like this all the time, I make the trade even if we still have Kuba and Lee on the team. Just imagine:

Karlsson - Methot - Cowen - Kuba - Gonchar - Lee

with Phillips as your #7 (or switch him with Lee if you don't believe Phillips has regressed to the point of being a #7), and great depth in Bingo (Weir, Benoit, Gryba, Boro). Now that's an impressive defense, with a great mix of puck-moving talent and strength, experience and youth.

Given how thin our depth in defense is right now, Methot's play already appears to be critical to the success of the team this season.
The actual D weakness (if there's really one) was not created by Kuba's departure and the Brian Lee trade but by the Jared Cowen and Mike Lundin's injuries...

Methot replaces Kuba's role (less offense (well remains to be seen) but more physical and better defensively)

Lundin replaces Lee/Gilroy (I'd make that change 10/10 times)

Wiercioch replaces Cowen (because of injury. Only thing we have to "worry" about right now)

Borowiecki/Gryba replaces Carkner (less fighting ability but more mobility)

Of course... Most trades are win/win or loss/loss anyway... Only on HF, fans are so desperate to find a winner and/or a loser

I just don't see Wiercioch replacing Cowens skill set. Boro/Gryba more replace Cowen and to some extent Carkner. Wiercioch is more Lee/Gilroy Kuba.

It was just one game, but it showed a lot of promise. Methot was supposed to bring a stable presence and he did so in spades. I was impressed with Weircoch and Benoit as well, again it was just one game and against limited offensive skill so im curious to see how they play going forward.

Regin looked good out there too, if he can stay healthy he gives the Sens another weapon in the bottom six.

The best part about Methot is he will not anyone **** with Karlsson. Neil isn't always on the ice to protect him. Methot can offer that protection the way Kuba could not.

I've never seen Kuba be able to make a quick sharp turn-stop like that.

i liked how he fought off attackers and carried the puck by them to get the puck out of the zone with either a pass or carrying. it was good that he was doing that when karlsson was fighting the puck early in the game, or else we would have been stuck in our end even longer than we already were.

Maybe, I still think Foligno is overpaid for what he brings, but maybe Columbus needs that kind of grit. In that case it is more of a win/win.

Methot really, with Karlsson just has to play good and he gets an appreciation thread, that says more about this team, and less about Brian Lee/Matt Gilroy/Filip Kuba etc...

I noticed in the practises that he has a very underrated offensive skill set.

Best Senator by a mile in Winnipeg. While the Sens improved as the game wore on, #3 showed up from the opening shift. Looked like Volchenkov in his prime. Positionally sound and physical when needed.

Asked him at the season ticket holder event what it was like playing under Hitchcock.
"Hey, you know what he's like, you've seen him, heh (Jack Nicholson smile). That's exactly it. (KH loves vets). Really happy to be here in my hometown."

Over the years, I've met quite a few who echo his sentiments. A blind squirrel/obese penguin does find the occasional nut/fish (refer to '99 NO GOAL). Lindy was right.

More in terms of Wiercioch replaces Cowen's spot on the 2nd pai with Gonchar

Also, I know you're biased against him but...

Wiercioch >>>>>>>> Lee/Gilroy

And it won't be really close

Loving him. We need to clone him. Maybe alter his DNA so he shoots right and pair him with Wiercioch. We have the technology.

Another good game by Methot, future looks bright with Methot, Cowen & Wiercioch on the left side & Karlsson & Ceci on the right side.
