The aim there is probably to split up their puck carriers. Zone entries can be an issue for this bunch, so stacking the 3 of the better options may really handicap the 2nd line.

There are going to be injuries and when that occurs he will be ready for a top six role. My worry is that they send him down after 5 games and we will regret that when an injury to a top six player happens. He is ready now and I don't think he will benefit from playing out the season in the OHL.

Some coaches just refuse to play young players and will play vets regardless of performance (in particular I'm thinking of Dave Tippett for the Coyotes). Noel may be somewhat like that. If Sheifele stays more that 5 games, then he will eventually be moved up. He especially is needed on the PP where our existing PP units are unable to produce.

I still would like to see Orville and Tony in the lineup sometime as I think we need more grit and I'd like to see for myself what they bring.

If this is the case then he is the wrong man for the job. This organizations philosophy is to draft and develope its talent which is a little hard if your young players arn't getting the minutes that they need to progress.

While I agree Sheif needs to play more, I'd like to point out he's already played alot of hockey. If they've already decided to keep him up then maybe they're pacing him? With the OHL, WJC, and this 48 game season, (even assuming no playoffs) that's basically a season and a half.

I disagree with this line of thinking. He is going to have to learn to play a full season eventually so might as well get started now. He is in form and Noel should be taking advantage of this instead of handling him with kid gloves. You don't see Florida, Boston, or Edmonton doing the same thing with Hamilton, Huberdeau, and Schultz all of which have played the same amount of games the Scheifele has so far this year.

You play him and moniter the results, if he starts to get fatigued then you start cutting back his minutes.

I wish people would cut this kid a break. He's becoming hated like he's Kessler for gods sakes. He's nearly a goal a game in the OHL and will be a great 1st or 2nd line centre for us in the bigs. I just can't grasp why he's so unpopular.

Just what I've read on HF seems like he's pretty heavily scrutinized. I could be wrong of course and I hope I am, I think Marks a beauty of a prospect

I like mark.....I just think brining him up this year will not help him....let him get bigger and stronger and next year he will have a legit chance at a spot in the top six

So far from what im seeing from him, he will be in the AHL for some work next season as well. He falls more then the American economy during a recession.

So much of it is because he was projected as going in the 10-15 slot in the 2011 draft, and thus is considered a reach pick by the Jets. If he were picked as a mid first-rounder, people would be talking about him as the steal of the 2011 draft.

And yet somehow has created offense and a good forecheck in limited opportunities.

Just some food for thought; maybe his tendency to fall is less important than you seem to think? You've been watching the games. How often did those falls lead to turnovers or prevent him from creating opportunities?

I watched the same amount of the game as Scheifele did. The only difference being I watched it from my couch, while he watched it from the Jets bench.

I think Scheiff should stay. A 48 game season is a nice developmental season to get him ready for next year. With big Nik, Poni and Welly out of contract in the summer, it's a good chance to see if the kid can adjust to the speed of the game at the top level.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Scheifele didn't play much and "fell lots".

Any other things that stood out?

If you look at 14:40 of the first period there was a simple pass exiting the Jets Zone from Slater to Schiefele and he blew up the wing past Aaron Johnson and got a noce shot on net. When we were watching it on TV in the bar I thought it was Wheeler initially due to the height and speed. His top end sipped is fine and I think he looks comfortable so far.

I don't have huge issues with where he is starting out because it's only a matter of time until someone gets hurt and Mark moves up. I would be disappointed if we send him down this season. He is going to get his shot and we need him IMHO.

Do you think the Jets are commited to keeping him with the NHL this year, or sending him back to the OHL? I would be surprised if they didn't know what they were going to do with him by this point.

Things can change with an injury or two, but they should have an idea if they are going to send him back or keep him. I'm thinking they are sending him back, barring injuries.

1. Anyone who thinks schiefly is going to bea gracefull Euro smooth skater is crazy. He's gonna be a crash and bang guy. he's gonna scrabblle for every inch just like his mentor. He goes into the hard places and fights. he draws hits and bumps and falls because he's fighting for position. and he often seems to be where he needs to be despite falling and scrabbling.

2.he has smooth hands and succeded at every level of the game, He has only excelled at every aspect of the game he's been asked to work on. Even in our loses at the worlds He was good.USA was stacked. so be it. Russia was at home, and Canada in thier hearts, had already lost the tournament. so they ended up in 4th place. I don't hold those losses on Mark's head.

3.He needs to be on the ice with.......Dare I say Kane?.......I have been Hard on Evander, yet, I honestly would like to see Kane play with Mark. I think they would work. I would stick Antro on the other wing If he plays like he did when he was 100% healty last year. I think that could be magic. Probably next year.

So Yes he deserves to be evaluated for 5 Games If he scores a goal or a good assist in the next couple I think he will still go down. If he wins a Game 1st star or two, has 3 or 4 goals, or even posts stoe cold stolen type saves against him, despite being on a third or 4th line, it will be a much harder decision. He really needs to shine bright or it is not worth damiging his development for a short term fix.

He's 19. 19. Spezza didn't stick at 19. Just because a player hasn't peaked at 19 doesn't mean it's over. There is lots of time.

puting him out on 4th line is brilliant. He can learn the physical aspect While not being 100% relied upon to carry the offfence. That will come. We know he's a scoring centre. TNSE Know it. They want him to be a career Topline Centre.

Someday.

Right now they are banging him around and letting him show what he can do in the limited minutes they can give him. now we see if he can help a couple of 4th liners look better. thereby making himself look better.

Playing him with the 4th line tells me that they want him to get his 5 games but they don't really want him to have a huge break-out in those 5 games so they can send him down.

You have a top 6 forward (projected). You don't play him with a good defensive face-off specialist / penalty killer and an interchangeable part (sorry Thorbs) that could be swapped out with about 300 other players with little noticeable drop-off in results. You do play him with players of like or complimentary talent. At least you do if you want to see his offense bloom.
