I'm not arguing his hitting ability, just saying you'll be lucky that he throws one. Plays a more of a soft positional game, with a good shot blocking ability. Greene supplied a big physical presences for the Kings and Hjalmarsson doesn't bring that.

It would be nice to have a big hitter as Greene's replacement, but as long as we get someone with solid D I'd be happy. We're fine with the puck-movers (Doughty, Voynov, Martinez) - but Scuderi is the only stay-at-home guy we have left.

I'd expect Dean would use this opportunity to pay the price and upgrade rather than looking for a 6/7.

You're going to have a hard time filling Greeners skates with someone that plays a similar game. Very good defensively and tough/strong as hell. One of a hand full of guys in the league that can crush people while standing still.

What he does supply is competent defense. And that's more important right now. When Greene returns, so does our third pairing nastiness. Until then, we live without it and take what we can find. Hjalmarssson then slots into Scuderi's spot when his contract expires this summer. Other than the temporary loss of sandpaper (and if we cant get by without that we aren't much of a team, tbh) its aces.

I expect Lombardi to sit tight to see how Muzzin does, Mitchell is supposed to be back Sat. latest and possible Thursday.

Its a risk but right now not sure if any teams are going to part with any good talent, without a big over payment.

I hope the Kings consider Orpik. Although is a lineup with Greene and Orpik (circa 2013-14) too redundant?

i agree. i love Greene's game and have for years. i laugh every time some fool goes another 'trade Greene' tirade. he plays and does what most everyone else on the team doesn't want to do and more importantly can't. like you said he can crush guys. there are very few players that game in game out, will go out there and play that role. that is the talent that Greene has that many people seem to overlook

Hjammer plays a very Euro-influenced style of defense. he plays positional first and foremost, but can and will pick his spots to make a big hit. i guess you could compare him to Drew how he will take the opportunity to line up some big hits, difference is that Doughty can skate a hell better than HJammer. it is this going back to my earlier post is my concern with Hjammer. he gets caught in no man's land sometimes thinking he can make a hit, cut off a pass, etc and this where the WTF moments happen with him.

he also won't be another Greene as pointed out when it comes to the strength and ability to crush guys practically at will. This is why Greene is so important to the LA PK unit, the guy can move pretty much move anyone from the front of the net, tie guys up and willing to block any shot (including with his face).

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Greene apparently suffered a herniated disc in his back vs. CHI on Saturday. Expected to undergo surgery later this week.

there's our answer

Bernier for Hjalmarsson and Emery. Done.

Or Richardson for Volchenkov.

Or Loktionov for Sarich.

Or Richardson for Komisarek.

Or nab Vandermeer off waivers.

Defense is bare behind him. They can't afford to do that, at least in my opinion.

Bernier for Hjalmarsson became much more feasible.

I love Volchenkov, but the dude has taken a beating over the course of his career. His durability is a major concern considering he has 4 years left on his contract.

Look at Leopold , sekera, or breenen and trade able.
You think Ott's feelings are going to make a player untouchable? Ott?

Maybe the Kings can get Gill and reunite the Gill-Scuderi pair?

Mitchell-Doughty
Martinez-Voynov
Gill-Scuderi

I think Mark Fraser would be a perfect replacement.

He's probably going to have to get put on waivers soon, or be traded, now that Jake Gardiner is returning.

Might be a good fit.

Or, I'm sure most fans would agree that Richardson for Komisarek is fair haha
