It's kind of ironic that the players Gillis was asking for from the Leafs are looking the best on the ice and outperforming the rest of the team. If there was any trade consideration, its probably gone now.

I think it would be more ironic if the players that Gillis was being offered are looking the best on the ice and outperforming the rest of the team.

They are stars that's why Nonis would not trade them.

As sad as I am that we won't get guys who are performing like that, at least it gives me even more confidence that Gillis will find good players.

That amounts to Lupul (pre signing, a rental), a prospect on pace with Finn (that I truly feel is more valuable to Detroit then Vancouver) and a 2nd/3rd for Luongo. Would you have been prepared for Toronto to do this if you had Howard?

If the Wings were in....sure....but we lose Filppula this off season, Ouellet improves on K-Conn, but loses his size and we get a late 2nd or 3rd pick. Unless we get something if Filppula bolts, I dunno...for all the talk of Gillis waiting for the "right deal", the value wouldn't be bad, but I don't see it as a fit.

Everyone all last season couldn't wait to get Schneider traded and were fawning over his potential return.

Luongo gets benched in the playoffs and now he is the odd man out.

Fair dissection. Just throwing something out there. Wouldn't be a terrible trade I think and maybe Vancouver could resign Filppula and use someone else as an asset if things get too cluttered.

Meh....

Its true but more so im referring to how everyone is now questioning if Schneider can be a #1 goalie after one bad game. Maybe he cant be a #1; maybe he can. The point is that good or bad, one game shouldnt alter anyones opinion of a player so drastically.

Same can be said about Kadri and Bozak. Some people are acting like they're freaking Crosby and Malkin after one good game.

Oh no, I didn't mean to sound dismissive....its refreshing to not hear "Bozak" in a proposal

Like I said, value is there, but we'd probably want someone signed longer as the main piece, and my dissection was to show that Flip would be the center of the return. If Howard is destined for greener pastures, Detroit would make sense as a destination.

Maybe the player being waited upon is an RFA...Benn? O'Reilly? Subban?

None really make sense as destinations, maybe it's a 3-way?

Leaf fans who believe in Kadri see this as no surprise. He's torn up almost every AHL game I've been to, and looks like he just belongs in a better league.

Bozak however, is a bigger surprise to be honest, seems like he took his game up another notch this year based on everything I've seen so far.

Or maybe Gillis is just talking out of his ass to stir up the pot.

You pretty much got the new Crosby and Malkin with Kadri/Bozak.

“We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have — and it’s not who anybody thinks it is — and so we have to wait."

Throughout this entire Luongo saga Gillis has been adamant that Luongo will be dealt at fair value, and that the return will include significant quality assets in return. At the deadline this was Gardiner, Frattin, 5th overall. After that it was a package including legit blue chip NHL ready prospects in Gudbranson or Bjugstad.

I'm really intrigued at what the package could be that has Gillis close to pulling the trigger.

Losing Hansen really hurts out RW depth. Since we have none on the main roster.
I'd much prefer to move a LW out despite not having much in the pool for LW's.
Vancouver still has Booth for a couple seasons and ROR could also slot on the LW, so it makes sense to move one of the 6 LW's we have.

Moving Kesler for Benn is filling one hole by making another. Benn would be the absolute perfect player for us to target(plays C or W, a BC boy, etc, but I don't know what we could offer to make it worthwhile to them.
