No thanks, Glencross is a coward, just had to see him running the Oilers stars last season then running to the bench when he was challenged, to know that.

Would be sweet. We made a huge mistake letting him walk and I called it all the way to the bank, but who knows - might see him again if we're lucky.
Yeah...what could have been for our third line. Losing Glencross and Brodziak sucked.

But Bigos and Roy were well worth it.

Letting Glencross walk over peanuts was the all-time Kevin-Lowe point of that era that gets over looked. It was pretty clear at that point he was a useful player, I never forgave him for that one.

He's pretty much become what we wish Paajarvi would be.

Losing Glencross because he was being a whiny ***** that was asking for too much money whilst Kevin Lowe tried to sign Hossa was the "Lowe" point for you?

wow

Yup. He was a proven valuable asset to the team. Still pisses me off. We'd never have let him walk to Calgary if we had real management .

IIRC, his high shooting percentage had a lot of media doubting him and many fans concerned. Luckily we don't have silly debates like that anymore.

Glencross is the exact type of player we need. Talented, fast, and plays tough.

I think that Glencross wanted to go to Calgary all along.

Glencross was seriously undervalued when he was in Edmonton. He'd arrived as an emerging NHL second liner, but people were wringing their hands over the thought of giving 1.3 million a year to a "4th line winger".

But I perfer the way things worked out. The rebuild with all the young stars > keeping one above average player on a terrible team.

Brodziak and Glencross are two players that I wish we could have back.

Both are responsible players with grit and skill.

ROR is the guy that we should be targeting if he's available. Gagner + + would be fine with me. Young, tough to play against, and great in the dot. Benn is a pipe dream IMO, but I'd do just about whatever it takes to get him here as long as he'd be willing to come here and changed his stance about playing in Canada.

Every team has a few good players that slipped away... 20-20 hindsight and all that.

Tamby has built the softest team in the league for sure. WE need Evander Kane, we will get crushed if we make he playoffs without adding some grit.

I was watching the Tampa game today, we could really use a player like Ryan Malone.

I'm not worried at all. Every team takes its intensity level up a notch in the playoffs and with the character guys the Oilers have, I expect no different from them. Besides, let's make the playoffs first before jumping to conclusions.

I think Ryan Malone would be a guy available for us to bring in. The money on him kind of sucks but he's a big body

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Yakupov-Gagner-Hemsky
Malone-Horcoff-Smyth
Eager-Belanger-Jones (Hartikainen/Petrell in the meantime)

With Purcell's development, and if the Lightning are out of the playoff race come springtime, I could definitely see this guy being available for an affordable price. Probably for a 2nd or something of the sort. I'd stick him in the top-6 somehow.

Ideally the current roster gets the team into the playoffs by the deadline, and then they can bring in some gritty guys for picks and futures. Prices for those kinds of guys will probably be higher now than they will be at the deadline, considering everybody thinks they're in the race right now.

Would you still do that deal if ROR was looking for 4.5-5 mill a season?

Yes. At that point you start sacrificing depth at W for smart salary cap decisions and other positions. essentially with a 72-73M cap:

#1 Line 6.0-6.0-6.0
#2 Line 4.0-4.5-4.0
#3 Line 2.0-2.5-2.0
#4 Line 1.5-2.0-1.5

#1 Pair 5.5-5.5
#2 Pair 4.0-4.0
#3 Pair 2.0-2.0

#1 Goalie: 5.0
#2 Goalie: 2.0

This is a completely hypothetical but ideal breakdown for a contending team playing under the cap. No team is going to follow it exactly, but some are literally playing within that framework (Vancouver).

Your highest paid player on the 2nd/3rd line should be your 2C/3C. They are going to be the most important player on both of those lines.

It basically sets up a situation where you're going to move Yakupov when his star is high (likely once his ELC runs out), and use it to address other needs (a #1/#2 defenseman, etc). Use UFA/trade to acquire wingers for line 2.
eg) Hemsky should be a 3-4M 2RW by that point.

I don't think you can blame Tambo on that, Tambo is still dealing with K.Lowe crap. K.Lowe believes that the physical of hockey would disappear and loaded the team up with highly skilled smurfs. That brain fart Stauffer thinks the same way.

The physical game will always be a part of hockey, you don't need all bruisers, but a mixture. Looking at the top teams and the past Stanley Cup winners you can say that teams are looking for those big physical players more and more.
