I saw Minnesota-North Dakota last night. In the 1st period,Skjei broke up a play in his own zone. Picked up the loose puck. Flew down the ice. Gained the offensive zone. Then sort of just stopped and made a drop pass to the Minny forward who came into the offensive end. Maybe he should have continued going to the net.
Quote:
Outside of a cross-checking penalty in the second, Brady Skjei played his best game as a Gopher. I noticed him making more good plays in the first period than anyone else and Skjei even had a series where he out-skated 4 North Dakota players. The freshman has responded well since being cut from Team USA’s World Junior squad.
I emailed Mike Russo about 2-3 weeks ago asking about Skjei. It was when Minny started playing after the holiday break. He thought Skjei played his best game of the season against BC after returning from Europe. Russo was covering the Gophers during the lockout.

He dropped the h. Which was silent in Swedish anyways.
He wants to get faster - not fasther...
Hey, he has not dropped the H!
For some reason, and its not the first time I've seen stuff like that, his family has always gone by the name Fasth while being listed as "Fast" in the books. So Jesper Fasth's passport has always said Jesper Fast. When he was assigned a jersey in rookie camp, the people who ordered it went by his official name without knowing the name he uses.
What do I know, he could officially drop the H to sound cooler in americanish, but unless I've missed something he has not done so yet. I fear a Marc Stall-warning here for sure.
On a side topic, it will be interesting to hear how the announcer handles his name. Just like with Trevor Glass its mighty annoying for announcers when a player has a name identical to a word used often (the puck hit glass).
He's still listed on all official SEL-related websites as Fasth, and his HV71 jersey has it spelled that way as well. I know there was a mention of him dropping the H some months ago, but I'm going to continue to use it until I see him wearing a sweater that just says Fast.

I was vocal about not being impressed with Skjei's play early on, but I watched him play vs. UND on Saturday, and I couldn't believe I was watching the same player. Poised and aggressive with the puck and much better with d-zone coverage.
Anyone think Fasth/Lindberg will play for the Rangers by the end of the year?
If this team finishes as a 5-8 seed and Torts is concerned about depth/our bottom six, I think we could see both. Because the season will end later than it normally would, they could even get some games in with the team before the playoffs. Is there anything in the new CBA that would make this different from the Kreider situation? I assume we lose a year on their contracts if they play > 5 regular season games or 1 playoff game.
Rangers might want to consider using a late pick for Jesper Fasths cousin, Anton Bengtsson. Bengtsson is born 1993 and have been overlooked twice in the draft, which isn't odd since he didn't put up exceptional numbers or anything as a junior. However he is developing at a rapid pace, earned a regular spot on HV 71 and looks better and better every time I watch him. His breaktrough came a bit to late to be considered for WJC and he has never been a regular on the various junior national teams. His best asset is that he is a great skater just like his brother, he also got nice creativity, ok size (6'00) and a good shot.Since he has developed a lot in a short period of time and got some really standout qualities (skating) he might be worth a late pick. A really under the radar guy that have a chance to turn out to be a gem. 2g 3a so far, but it's just very recently he has started to get some time on ice to speak of.
