I've never been a big Gunnarsson fan. To me he's doesn't have enough of an all around game to be on the ice as much as a top pairing defender is.

I'm not saying Kostka is the answer though, too early to say.

I hope Luongo doesn't come to Toronto. I am in full tank mode. It is time to do what Burke should have done when he was hired. Lose games, amass draft picks, and...and this is the real key to the whole plan, don't trade those picks.

I don't think we necessarily need Luongo given our season GAA is 1.50 at the moment, but maybe it would be nice to air out the stagnant roster and light a fire at some point if we moved out Kulemin or MacArthur or both to get him and get some momentum going with the franchise if things still aren't clicking in a month.

I agree. A little good at everything but not really good at any one thing. I never thought he was first pairing material either but a good depth guy.

Not saying it is a lock, but they could very well do something like that.

Gillis is just trying to re-generate interest in the Roberto market, considering it went a bit stale since the start of the season and really just became 'white-noise' around the league.
That makes a lot of sense and Gillis has promised the fans, he would only trade him for a substancial deal, to get some good players in return.

TB is certainly a possibility and one that Luongo would approve.

Gotta think Lindback goes the other way? Maybe a Luongo + package for Lecav (bad contract but still a good player- similar to Lu)+ Lindback. I don't know why they'd trade for Lindback if they don't believe in him despite a decent start to the year?

Gillis claims today that he has a potential deal in place for Luongo

Quote:
Canucks general manager Mike Gillis suggested to the Vancouver Sun on Tuesday that trade talks surrounding goalie Roberto Luongo are picking up steam.

"We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have — and it's not who anybody thinks it is — and so we have to wait. (But) we've been offered packages that don't fit what our plan is, what we need," Gillis told the Sun.

Gillis explained how the offers have not suited the Canucks' needs.

"(Teams would offer) excess salary coming back with a [throw-in] player who can't play in our lineup. They say, 'OK, we'll do this, but you've got to take this.' Well, we're not taking it. We've had lots of proposals like that with good pieces that can help us but the other part doesn't help us, and oftentimes they have term attached to them, so we'd just be turning around and buying out a guy.

Judging by his words it doesn't appear to be the Leafs.

I'd guess Philly and the player the Flyers need to move would be Brzygalov of course to make room for Luongo.

Perfect description for Gunnarsson. He's neither here or neither. I think everyone realizes that he's a 2nd/3rd pairing guy though.

"potential deal in place for Luongo"

deal in place for Luongo but Gillis says "We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have and it's not who anybody thinks it is and so we have to wait. (But) we've been offered packages that don't fit what our plan is, what we need,"

The definition of "vague"

Anyway, i hope he gets traded. I'm tired of the nucks/leafs fans bickering about this for like a year now.

Well, they're telling you what the Vancouver GM is saying about the situation. I don't see what your issue is.

Is this news you can use? Sounds rather cryptic

If Phily were to buy out Bryz would it be worth testing the waters on him maybe pick him up for a 2 year 2 mil per type of deal?

lol it's hilarious watching Gillis trying to milk any value he can out of Luongo when it's so clear that no one cares anymore

Philly can't buyout Brzygalov until this summer after this season is complete.

That would be the epitome of stupid if Philly buys out one monster contract so they can take on another.

I'd like them to stick with this tandem for this short schedule and see what happens.

I can handle another losing year simply because its only 48 games.

Nonis can sort out this situation through the year and next off-season instead of making a pressing decision now because the season is set to start.
and because the top of this draft is ridiculous
