Pair him with a decent puck-mover on the third pair and you should be satisfied. He's a pretty solid, stay-at-home #6 when healthy.

Never thought I'd live to hear Wings fans say that their team sucks.

Because Kent Huskins has played 299 NHL games. It's not like he's some AHL vet. He's been in the league pretty regularly for 5 years now.

67 career points. Yikes. That's probably why I didn't know who he is. Babcock will have a choice of any #7 defenseman he likes, as we have a few. I'm sure that's a luxury.

We had basically no other choice. Not that this helps much. D is still brutal.

When the guys get off IR, we need to start trading or waiving kids.

Awww. I was so sure it'd be White.

Sign an '11-12 Blue to replace an '11-12 Blue. Makes ferpect cents.

He uses it to block shots and to "take the hit to make the play". But he is not physical by any means.

I think they'll roll Smith with Huskins. The Quincey and Smith pairing has been absolutely brutal. Neither of them can be reliable when the other makes mistakes, and both are prone to make mistakes. If it's true, and Huskins can be the stay-at-home, it'll help Smith's progress within the NHL. He has a knack for offense, and can move the puck, great poise, etc. He just needs that partner that is willing to camp out and stay home.

That is definitely Huskins. During Demers rookie season, the Huskins - Demers pair was outstanding against the other team's 3rd/4th lines.

He's a stay at home Dman, so he's not going to be lighting the lamp. He's solid though. Biggest problem last year with the Blues was the injuries.

Is that 2nd pairing the worst in the NHL right now? Smith has looked overmatched in the NHL and Quincey has looked just awful.

At this point, I think that's all we can ask for as Wings fans. I mean, they've got enough offense from the blue line, now they just need some defense from... er... the defense.

Probably be something more like this:

Kronwall-Lashoff
Quincey-White
Smith-Huskins

67 points in 300 games is not out of the ordinary for a defenseman...

Possibly, but I think they'd both look much better away from each other. Especially Smith who's a rookie should play with a solid veteran, and Quincey is not.

Wings desperately need some solid unspectacular defensemen. Hopefully Huskins can fill a void.

That waiver wire pickup of Strait and Hickey sure must look good for the Isles now from Detroit's standpoint.

Huskins is great at taking a hit to make a play. Guy takes a beating at times

this has me excited then. basically, when stuart left it left the defense corps with no real stay-at-home defense men. i'm sorry i'm picking your brain so much, but it seems like you have some quality information pertaining him. is he really injury prone? or was last season just unfortunate? I can see in the thread that many say he will take the hit to make the play but is this a downfall? Is he a pretty strong guy, or actually injury prone and we just most likely tied our hands even more?

*edit* seriously? i used than instead of then... ffs.

Holland is such a boss with all these Dmen he's signed the past few years. Detroit defense is looking lethal right now:

Suter-Edler
Kronwall-Wizniewski
Huskins-Quincey

Diesel.
