Noel said the same thing last season in back to backs. He played Wellwood in a limited role (maybe sat him out too can't remember) in the second half of a back to back saying that he's a smaller guy so its harder to maintain his level of play on back to back days.

He did take a minor inkjury. The "he looks tired" thing is not true and I'd lay my hand for it in fire. He said several times in the last weeks, that he is in better shape than the last seasons. He trained a lot with his brother and other players.

IMO, it's_

maybe a minor injury + unhappiness about his play in the first 2 games (looked kind a invisible) + the desire to see what Scheifele does with more TOI (you have to take a look now, not after they sent him down) + give Wright a chance

=

Wright in, Wellwood out

Any word on the starting goalie? I'm assuming he'll go with Pavs again. Personally feel Montoya should start one of the back to back games.

No Redmond yet? You would have to think either he starts to play or goes down to play big minutes in St. Johns.

Re: Wellwood

If I understand Noel's thinking (and there's a good chance I don't), he wants to switch Scheifele and Wellwood's spots.

However, as nice as it would be to have Wellwood dressed, even on the 4th line, Noel recognizes that he wouldn't make a very good checker/grinder with Slater and Thorburn. So he's dressing Wright instead, who plays that kind of a role.

Should be a good chance for Scheifele. He's a similar style of player to Wellwood but obviously more physically gifted.

Jokinen's looked much better against Boston than live vs Ottawa IMO. Hope that continues. That line is dying for a guy who can thread the needle and see the play develop at a high level.

Just my take, but "he's tired" is probably code for "he's getting parked so we can switch our chemistry up a bit". In addition, it sends a subtle message to Wellwod that he needs to pick up his compete level just a tad.

Also, didn't see the final box stats but it seemed we were much better on face offs as a team than I remember us being in general last year. Especially against Boston with a guy like Bergeron.

On the Round table Hnidy just said it will be hard to predict the line combinations and they will start one way and roll them as long as they can but do to 3 games in 4 nights we will probably see adjustments depending on who has legs and is going and not which makes sense. Safe to say Schief should be in the top 9 somewhere to start the game.

Who knows maybe Mark on the right side with Kane and Jokinen or does Wheeler move to that line and Mark centers Ladd and Little? also Burmi could move up and Mark could centre Antro and Poni. Of coarse Antro could fit in the top 6........and on and on

Most likely this early in the season it will be all the above

Agree, disagree?
I have no problem giving it to Ladd when he deserves it, and I have in the past. He's not perfect that's for sure. He needs to start bringing it starting tonight. He is the captain and must lead by example.

Sounds like Little is going to play on the wing with Kane and Jokinen. Wonder if it will be Scheifele or Burmistrov centering Ladd and Wheeler, and what our #1 PP will be.

According to who?
I haven't seen Little on the wing anywhere.

More times than not Pavlec stunk it up when he played back to back last season. I see him getting lit up. Hope i'm wrong.

A little sad we're going with Pav's.

I thought the fact he got the benefit of about 6 posts showed he was a little shaky.

Noel switched up the lines late against Boston and stuck Little on the wing.

I don't think that's going to stick going forward.
That seems mighty early to give up on your first line.

PS... kudos on the BRO DAY THREAD, YWG!!!!

I do not feel good about Pavelec starting. Has this coaching staff learned nothing? We can't be afraid to start Montoya, he's shown he can play!

Little played wing in the 3rd yesterday after the lines were switched up. I kinda hope Noel goes with what he did yesterday. I don't wanna see LLW together. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I don't want to sit here and wait 3 weeks for a line to get going. I know we're not expecting playoffs this year but that doesn't mean you coach like that.

I also don't think Scheif will be playing center just yet and the reason for that is I'm not sure he's gonna win a lot of faceoffs and that is something we need. Now if we stuck him on the 3rd or 4th line maybe where the match-ups are more favorable. But I don't see Noel putting the pressure on him to center a top line. I expect he'll still be at wing.
