BTW I have no big issue with little playing wing.
But the OP said "sounds like little is going to play wing" to me that means it was reported somewhere.

Yes, Pavs played yesterday, but Boston didn't really work him that hard. I think he'll get up for this game.

I agree, I would much rather see Montoya in net tonight and let Pavelec rest since this is a condensed season we are going to need him big time later in the season.

Pretty excited for the game with Welly out, to see Schiefele get some time with some quality players and actually get a sense if he is ready for the show yet.

He's also shown he can get lit up just like anyone else. His .893 SV% and 3.10 GAA showed that. I think Montoya can be a very serviceable back-up whether that starts this year or in the coming years. I also don't think it has anything to do with being afraid to start him. I think it's just that Noel wants to show Pavs that he is more then confident in him.

I know it's early in the year and that Pavs is the guy going forward, but history has shown Pavs has always struggled in back-2-backs. Obviously at some point he has to show he can do them but idk if now is the right time for this.

Most definitely start Montoya both remaining games against the Senators (one is 2nd half of B-2-B). Pavs has struggled big time last 2 yrs vs Ott, going 0-4 with 18 GA (+ 2 empty netters) and just seems they have his number.

Would think the plan at the start of the season would be about 38 games for Pavs and 10 for Montoya...8 back-to-backs, the other Ottawa game, and another. Of course, plans like this go out the window pretty quickly.

Noel was quoted earlier before season start saying he wasn't going to overwork Pavelec like last season.

Hmm.

Someone posted on the WFP comments (yes, I know generally its " " over there)...

Suggested top lines:

Kane - Scheifele - Wheeler

Ladd - Jokinen - Byfuglien (yes re-opening that tired closed debate!!!)

Just provoking some debate, which never ends around here

It would be nice, but Buff isn't worth 5mil+/year at forward. And could you imagine how much that would devastate our already lacking d corps.

Putting byfuglien forward would be the stupidest thing Noel could do

4-2 Capitals. I do not like us in the second half of a back to back against a rested Caps team. We scratched out a point in Beantown thanks to a few posts, but our powerplay is rough, and I'm guessing Montoya is getting the start.

So judging by that WFP article:

1. Wright in, Wellwood out
2. Scheifele could get some time at C
3. Little will probably start at RW with Olli and Kane
4. Pavs in tonight instead of Montoya.

Ladd - ? - Wheeler
Kane - Jokinen - Little
Poni - Burmi - Antro
Wright - Slater - Thorburn

Enstrom - Byfuglien
Hainsey - Stuart
Clitsome - Postma

Pavelec
Who's taking that #1 C role? Burmi or Scheifele?

It will be nice to see what James Wright can do, and having Wellwood on the bench will never upset me. In my opinion, Wellwood, while talented is not really a player you win with. That said, I have a huge bias towards players who play a heavy game.

Could be Antropov...that's who Noel was sticking between Ladd and Wheeler in Boston. Not ideal, but we'll see what happens.

Why y'all want to see Montoya start ... been watching him in practice and monitoring his fitness levels have ye? Or is it because he is shiny "new-guy"...

Eventually, we're going to have to see what he can do.

If not used for the 2nd of back-to-back road games, when is a better time?

Mainly the listed reasons everyone gave.

Pavelec is historically awful in back-to-backs, plus while looking better yesterday he was the beneficiary of about 5 posts.

Backups typically pickup the back to back games. We're going to have to play him and when our starter sucks in those situations why not play the other guy?
