Is it really a good idea to have the tallest player on the roster paired with the shortest player on the roster? How long can this actually work out? I'm sure there are pros and coins of this pairing. But, I'm just curious what y'all think of this pair. Good idea or bad idea?
Ellis and Gill haven't been that bad really; they were +1 last night. It's a good pairing in terms of skillset; Ellis vroooms around the ice and Gill clears the crease and uses his 35 foot long stick to his advantage. I think our D as a whole is better than I feared it might be; giving up 5 goals in 2 games is decent. I think we roll with what we have for another 5-10 games and see where things shake out.
I worry about Blum; I say you dress 7 blueliners at some point after this road trip, have him split time on the second pairing with Hannan, and see what happens. Hannan isn't amazing, but Blum gave up some god awful goals last year.
blum and ellis still have a long way to go until they pass hannan on our depth chart
I don't know if it was just that Hannan's mistakes were more noticeable, but I think Ellis has done a pretty good job out there for the most part. I would not be upset if Trotz rolled a Klein-Ellis pairing out there.
I think I'd prefer to see Blum back to his 20game audition form and alternating Hannon and Gill. Lacking that, the pairings have been ok so far and certainly better than much of the "sky is falling" rhetoric following the suter debacle. That said - it's 2 games in with no pre-season, so......
