Unlikely. Gibson is a hell of a prospect don't get me wrong. There is a thing called a hotstreak.....you know some times lasting for about 10 games or so. I think its fair to say Gibson was on said streak. Also the USA's defense as a whole just enveloped the whole tournament. He isn't the best goaltending prospect in the world. What would happen if Markstrom would of played for Sweden in the WJC. (I know, I know hes too old.) Lets just say they gave that team an exemption and let him play for Sweden. Yeah....his save percentage would of been in the .97 range. No joke.
LOL you are severely underestimating Gibson. So, basically his entire career has been a hot streak? Ummm no.
3 to 4 years? If our training camp was any indication it should be 2 to 3 with Gibby fighting for a starting spot in the 3rd.
Alright....take any of the good young goalies in the league and look at how long it took them to break into the NHL. Carey Price is the exception. Schneider, Howard, Rask, etc. Look at all the young goalie prospects playing in the AHL. It's a proven method of developing goalies.
You guys have Hiller and Fasth ahead of Gibson. I would be confident in that goalie duo holding the fort while Gibson is the AHL starter for 2, 3 years. Maybe I'm wrong but I can see Fasth even taking the #1 spot for a couple of seasons, like a Backstrom in Minnesota scenario.
I know you are really high on Gibson. I am as well. The one thing I don't want to see is him being rushed to the NHL. However, if he turns out like Carey Price and only requires a bit of AHL seasoning, that works too.
All I know is I can't wait til both Markstrom and Gibson are full time NHL starters. My keeper league team will be set in net for years.
Sooo excited to have Vasilevski. Probably won't be in a Bolts sweater for 3 more years at the earliest, but I think we've got a real stud in the making here. Lindback and Tic can hold down the fort until then.
This year he hasn't. I didn't specify the year. I meant in totality.
I did too. at 19 Lehner was playoff MVP and won Calder Cup putting up RIDICULOUS numbers. Now he's still hammering him. Don't get me wrong, Markstrom and Lehner are on par for me but Lehner has done more in the A.
