yea thornton doesnt really work out for both teams, could Havlat be had or he pretty much off limits? tallon had him in chicago and would look nice on a line with huberdeau and bjugstad.
Pretty much our entire forward core if off limits. Any trades we would make would either be a defensemen for a forward, or a forward for a forward with a different skills et (like Clowe for a speedy winger).

The reason DW got Havlat was to add speed that we had lost when we traded away Devin Setoguchi for Burns. This makes Havlat pretty much off the table considering that he's a vital top-6er and adds nice secondary scoring (going by how many ???s there are for our third line, it's easy to see why we need all the scorers we already have).
You're not getting our captain for any less. Thornton is so undervalued by, well, everyone. He's HUGE, one of the best passers in the league, our captain, hardworking, solid two way player, etc. These two "down years" that he's had were 70 points and his latest 77 point season.

Havlat is one of our few speedy players in the top six. We'd need Bjugstad (+?) coming back (and yes, I know you wouldn't do that).
Huberdeau would be a starting offer for Joe. Huberdeau can ASPIRE to what Joe calls a DOWN year of 77 points.
Value wise aside, why would we even think about trading our top pick a year ago Huberdeau? But anyways, I wouldn't wanna trade for Thornton though yes I know he's a good player

Oh I'm sorry, is Huberdeau a coveted first line centre, who also just happens to captain your team, is one of the top passers in the league, has size, etc.?
If you want to go by draft positions, Joe was drafted first overall. Bringing up draft position is irrelevant.
I thought you said you guys weren't rebuilding? and why trade 2 top prospects who arguably will be top line players for a #2 center?
Couture IS our future. You ask for our future, we ask for yours. I never said we're rebuilding; hence I asked for an overpayment. Jeez, you sure have some skewed ideas about the value of SJ's players.

I'm sorry, Huberdeau and Bjugstad are top-line players, and Logan Couture, 23 y/o All-Star who has scored 30 goals twice, isn't? Couture is never going to be a star #1C, but he'd be fine as a 1A guy with Pavelski as the 1B, and he's absolutely a top-tier #1LW, were the Sharks to make him a wing permanently.
Besides, it was a Florida fan who started this thread. It certainly wasn't a Sharks fan.

No, its not that matter of him being drafted that high, its a matter of him being a really important piece of our franchise. And btw I didn't make the OP and I also said I wouldn't trade for him although yes I think he's a good player...

Thornton isn't really important to us though... you can actually have him for free.

Well when you've built a franchise through the draft like the panthers have done and set themselves up beautifully for the next decade, you don't just trade away your top picks and the future of your franchise... lets leave it at that
I am aware a Panthers fan started this thread, I just wanted to comment in the thread as I am a Panthers fan and a knowledgeable NHL fan.
Many keep talking of how the Sharks need to rebuild but, if we look at how most teams start a rebuild, from the net out, we really have no rebuild to do. We have 5-6 young solid D-men in place and two fairly young solid goalies;
Braun 25
Burns 27
Irwin 25
Vlasic 25
Demers 24
Petrecki 23
Niemi 29
Greiss 26
Up front, some young players already on the squad and many others can always be added via free agency and/or trades. But let's also remember, Thornton and Marleau are only 33 and not yet 37, 38.
