Spezza is better player now, but for fantasy may be tempted to take Seguin as he is listed as RW (more hard to find good RW in fantasy VS centers who are plenty).

Spezza is better player now and such... but it's not the craziest thing if someone took Seguin over Spezza in fantasy... I certainly did for the reason mentioned above.

I'd take Seguin in my pool. They were 17 points apart last season, but... $7.1M in salary and my pool has a cap, plus extends into the playoffs too. So, even before keeper considerations, it's already an easy call to take Seguin.

The 10 people who voted for Seguin are either Boston homers, or don't watch the East.

Or expect ridiculous things from Tyler Seguin, which itself doesn't seem that unreasonable...

Is it really that ridiculous for him to have a ppg season? he's in his 3rd year and is 21 years old... he could really explode this year.

Like I said, Spezza is the safe pick, Seguin has the potential to outscore him though.

The kid's gonna be amazing, heck he's amazing now, but Spezza's on a different level until proven otherwise.

More info on the type of pool would be helpful. Like Uncle Howie, I had Seguin ranked higher due to position, but every pool is different. I get the sense a lot of people here are basing their decision only on points, when there are other factors.

Well, for my part, I wrote my response before he added the "EDIT: for fantasy purposes" bit.

This poll is based on fantasy rather than reality. Maybe there are some fantasy leagues where less points is better than more points?

because it's conclusive that Spezza will outscore Seguin? Interersting, im sure you win all your leagues since you're able to see into the future.

My pool takes into account goals, assists, +/-, PPP, SHP, GWG, and shots. Spezza likely leads in assists and PPP, Seguin likely leads in +/- and shots. Some also take into account PIM, hits, etc. A lot more to consider than just points.

And, again, cap hit. A $7.1M savings in this year's salary would let me have multiple options elsewhere on my roster in place of Spezza, easily recouping any relatively minor difference they'd have in points.

I expect Spezza to be the better player for 1 more year. Then he could start to decline or not, but Seguin is definitely on his way up. Could even be better by the end of the season.

Spezza is injury prone, and one of his usual injuries would mean Seguin would outscore him.

Spezza is the safer pick, but I wouldn't be surprised if Seguin outscored him this year.
