I get Eller needs to prove himself this year. I get his line wasn't great last game.

But are we really scratching Eller instead of, say Armstrong or White?

Most of the team played like **** Saturday. Eller's at least in shape. As much as I like Armstrong and White for what they bring. You can't expect anyone to be happy to be scratched and feel confident when they're put in less priority than the two aforementioned players.

If anyone showed the most concern it was Armstrong. I liked the Armstrong signing and we needed someone like him...but his speed looked very bad, and that was concerning.

Well MT says he has potential and that hes just giving him a warning, that he needs to step up it's game.

FINE.

But now, god damnit, give him his damn chance when he gets back MT, or I'm gonna riot. Alone.

Really don't like this decision. If we need to put Gally at center and give Gallagher a game, how about we bench one of the plugs (Armstrong, White) instead of Eller.

Isn't winning all we should really care about?

It seems you would rather they lose so you can see Eller play another game. Get your priorities straight.

I don't like Eller being benched either but the coach should be alowwed to bench guys if that is what is needed to motivate them. In his presser today he said Eller was not competing enough.

BTW, Eller has played 164 NHL games...he is not a rookie anymore and he can handle the benching.

Do you think we can win it all this year ?
Next year ?

If you want to win in the future you got to develop your players. This is not developping a player.

But's it's a moot point as both of those guys would NEVER sit after 1 game whoever is coaching. Can people stop panicking? We are auditoning 2 young guys, we need to get one guy out, the 4th line in his entirety was our best line last game, and you don't sit out guys you acquired at the UFA period. And you don't sit your "stars". Which leaves.....Eller. Once Gallagher and Gally are gone, Eller will be a regular. And so will Nokelainen with White going to the wings. Be patient people....Eller will come back in the lineup. And let's hope with a better effort.

I'm not sure how scratching Eller helps us win hockey games, but none of us is around the team or sees the practises and whatnot, so the benefit of the doubt is charitably given. As long as it is a one-off motivational tactic (that works), and doesn't just become a random habit to resort to when nothing else presents itself.

This is developing them. They are not THAT fragile.

Exactly. Plus, we're not paying Armstrong much.

I thought Eller was more visible than most of our players. Which isn't saying much. Eller wasn't showing much, I won't deny that. But I thought he was more visible than some players on our first 2 lines, or just as much. Sure you don't bench them. But you can scratch an Armstrong or a White.

Hey Noob616, the so called plugs were WAY more intense and MT says it goes back to last week in the training camp.

Prust I guess.

That's about it. Markov was probably our second most intense player FFS.

I forgot about Bourque actually, yeah he worked very hard which is more than can be said about the rest of the forwards.

It's all in the plan. Last time Eller was scratched he came back with a mission, even scoring 4 goals in a game!

The team played well without Eller, so he is likely to stay on the bench.

Eller will get his shot. He just needs to be ready.

I'm sure Therrien is communicating with him. He'll get his ice time.

By most accounts Desharnais struggled, so does Eller replace him next game?

If this practice is done fairly I'm all for it.

Therrien will be more flexible with Desharnais.
You are comparing someone who scored 60pts with someone who had 28 last year.

Plus DD is playing with two guys who didn't really play during the lock out and looked like they were skating in cement Saturday. They were a bit better yesterday, but still a struggle for Cole and Pacioretty.

With the extra "jump" in the bottom 6 this year, if the DD line can play close to the level they did last year the habs can do some damage.

He struggled according to people who actually want to see him struggle.

WTF? Desharnais didn't struggle. Wow, delusion has taken over this board.
