As to blacked out games, if the game is offered national whether your cable company offers it or not it will be blacked out on GCL/CI
Bingo. The places that are blacked-out all fall into territories where a network has negotiated for exclusive broadcasting rights for a particular game. It doesn't matter what the network's market penetration is.
I don't know if it will make anybody feel better, but the other sports online streaming packages (MLB.TV & NBA League Pass) does the same thing too. I live in Hawaii, and the Giants are blacked-out on MLB.TV, even though my cable provider does not offer Comcast Bay Area.
Odd, Flyers vs Devils on ESPN-A, yet not blacked out on GCL. Same happened Saturday night with the Bruins game. Seems they're not blacking out the late games for me.
yep was about to post the same thing, hopefully they will only blackout 'prime time' games in europe if they are shown on espna, that would be nice but time will tell
also it seems that after 3 days, the vault is finally beginning to show some 2013 games in the archives.
as someone said this blackout issues are probably big money affair between nhl and tv channels, but honestly i would be ready to pay 3 times the price (and i'm sure i'm not alone) to have a full blackout free service and playoffs in europe .. but unfortunately i don't think such a 'ultra premium' service will ever exist.
There is no rational explanation for that, only the stupidity of whoever is responsible for this mess.
Apparently, there is a totally obscure pay-TV channel, called ESPN America, accessible perhaps to 0.00001% of European households, that is causing these blackouts all around Europe.
We must let the NHL know, loud and clear, that we're not gonna take this bull****. Otherwise, the NHL is going to lose to online pirates, lose big, and lose permanently.
edit : nvm just read one of the post above.
Still, some payperview french channel is broadcasting about 2 games a week (+ those on ESPN America) and they aren't even showing them live! -> 2 more blackout games a week.
Funny thing is, tonight they are broadcasting Flyers-Devils and the blackout game on gamecenter is Bolts-Hurricane.
Besides I thought blackout was originally created to get more attendance into stadiums : like I'm gonna fly to the USA to watch an NHL game..
