Howard truly did school Smith on that nice scoring move. No wonder they named a university after him.

Whew okay. Maybe we haven't been watching the same game tonight or the same league for the past couple of seasons. You win.

Awesome stuff from Reilly!

Gonna be a sweet deal watching him develop as a Dallas Star.

Very nice win tonight, really liked seeing Eakin on the 2nd Line with Ryder and Whitney.

Also starting to really like this Smith kid, both on and off the ice!

It was good to see Eakin do play well when given more ice time. The second line looked much more dangerous offensively than they did in the first two games. A lot of credit has to go to Eakin for that.

I wouldn't say we have gotten worse. We are just about the same. Pretty much stagnant. PP should be better but thats not a hard thing to do. I think we are going to have another near miss season so I hope the coaching staff does what we should be doing instead of trying to desperately make the playoffs at the cost of Eakin/Smith's development. We brought in guys like Jagr and Whitney to play with the young guys and that doesn't work if they young guys don't get time. Hopefully Eakin is a staple on the 2nd line going forward and Smith gets a lot of time. Tonight was a step in the right direction even if these guys make mistakes. When Benn come back I would like to see this:

Eriksson-Benn-Jagr
Whitney-Roy-Smith
Morrow-Eakin-Ryder

With Eakin and Roy switching as needed. Wandell-Fiddler-Nystrom (or let Wandell sit and call up Vincour, would be better, or even regulate Morrow to the 4th and let Vincour play on the 3rd since at least his legs aren't shot) should be the 4th line where they belong. Now if Gulutzan will give Dillon-Larsen a bigger role (they looked really good on the PP) then I will be happier. We seriously need to get over this fascination with Robidas on the PP. Larsen shows some great mobility and ability to get his shot on net and we are not developing it by keeping him off both units.

We're the same team as we were when Turco was starting (minus 08/09)? What?

I vehemently disagree. Howard is better than at least half of those goalies.

Benn was really good.

Larsen and Dillion probably won't be a 1st pair of defensemen as they mature but I can see 2nd pairing. They look like they're going to be a a good combo as they mature.

Ryder lives!

Eakin was flat out awesome. I don't want Benn to hold out but every game Cody gets between Ryder and Whitney can only help him develop.

Jagr is a beast with the puck on his stick. Detroit just could not get it back from him before he created enough space to pass it off and continue the play in the offensive zone.

Goligoski is not doing anything to engender confidence.

Morrow-Fiddler-Nystrom is not who I want out at the end of the game to kill the final minute with a lead. I'm not sure what combo of forwards would be best but they didn't do anything to help Lehtonen.

Reilly Smith made a sick move and deserved to score. That kid needs pp time and I hope he gets top six minutes when they're available this season.

Daley had a beast of a game and I wish to god he had just a smidge of Mike Green or Erik Karlsson in him because for all the great effort he puts him to make himself available in the offensive zone he still isn't very offensively gifted.

Apparently Ian White was cut by a skate last night. On the knee.

That sucks for Detroit.

That was EASILY the most entertaining game I've seen this year. It wasn't the best in terms of structure and defense, especially on the red wings side, but in terms of skill, transition, and chances that was awesome.

I know it's still early in the year, but man that was great.

I don't see how. For years he played in front on far better teams than the majority of those goalies and struggled with consistentcy. Whenever Detroit wasn't having a good game, Howard usually didn't either. You can't say that about any truly great goalie in the league, where they still look good even if the team looks bad. Howard only does this a few times, he rarely steals games. All the goalies I listed can do that better than Howard.

You really have no clue about Howard/Detroit then. Howard is the biggest reason we made the playoffs three years ago. He had a bad sophomore year two years agor but he was in Vezina talks last year before injuries ruined his year. Last night, for example, Howard kept the wings in the game. Stars should've had a 4 or 5 goal lead going into the third. Howard generally doesn't struggle with consistency, Detroit's defense does though.

Howard's a starter no doubt, but I'd put him at about the level of MAF.
