I am not sure if it was this case while with the blues, but while with the sharks and ducks he would have temporary bouts of thinking he was Bobby Orr and try to skate past everyone. Besides for that he is a pretty solid stay at home d man for the third pairing.

He didn't do that with stl, usually passed the pick to petro or cleared the zone. A few turnovers last yr but all around pretty solid.

Granted a one-game sample is of limited use, but if he continues to play as he did last night, it was definitely a good pickup.

He wanted to play closer to home. We had no chance at signing him.

They couldn't have re-signed Stuart. His wife and her child were stuck in California, and due to custody, she and the kid couldn't leave California(Last I knew, it was all due to the ex not allowing them to leave the state). This lead Brad to never be with his family. The organization tried their best to allow him to spend as much time as he could during the season while they were on California trips, but obviously that isn't enough. They knew, and Wings fans everywhere knew it was going to happen this off-season.

It also sucked when he basically checked out of Detroit half way through the season last season. It was just an unfortunate event, but Stuart and the franchise handled it nicely. They allowed him to go to San Jose, and no hard feelings were felt. What can ya do.
