Steve Mason in Columbus '08-09. Won the Calder. 33-20-7 with 10 shutouts.

And even with that great season, he is not a great example of a long-term solution in net. Quite the opposite.

Wasn't saying he was - he's horrible. I was just answering his question.

I would say Getzlaf and Perry would garner a better return. Kovalchuk while talented had the stench attached to him of putting up good numbers but never going anywhere. Getzlaf and Perry are atleast perceived as guys you want in the playoffs.

If I had to trade 1, it'd be Perry, I love him but finding centers like Getzlaf is simply way to hard, ideally we keep both, but Perry would fetch a monster return

RE: Gibson, I don't see us throwing him into the fire, the ducks seem to start their young goaltenders as backups.

Happened w/Giguere and Bryz
Happened w/Giguere and Hiller

In a year or more likely 2 years, Gibson will be backing up Hiller to start, but a healthy Hiller is a top 5 goalie in the league, he can win games by himself, if we had a healthy Hiller instead of Emery vs the Preds we would have won that series I think we all saw the difference between an average goalie, and a great one in that series

I imagine perry and Getz have a very short list of teams they would play for. Getz having a newport beach wife to make happy and perry just being his awkward uncomfortable self... If they are traded this year to a team they don't want to play for they will walk in the offseason... This will lower the market for a great return on these guys... Anyways that's my take

I was just going through archived tsn videos and Perry and Getzlaf were mentioned on insider trading. McKenzie said Perry's agent was going to California in the next 7-10 days to meet with Perry and have a "strategy session" about whether they're going to negotiate with Anaheim or test the market. He said Getzlaf is a good bet to re-sign and a deal was very close in the summer.

So basically confirmed our speculation - that Getzlaf is staying and Perry may or may not test the market.

So we'll know Perry's intentions pretty soon then, if he is intent on testing the market, then i think we have no choice but to trade him....you know he'll get some idiotic offer we can't match....

If we could get a legit top 2 line center, a blue chip prospect that we could possibly plug in soon, and a 1st would you guys do it?

I agree that if there is no deal signed before the trade deadline we have to trade him or Getzlaf.

I'm not so sure Perry will be seeking a HUGE payday. Obviously he will ask more than he got until now, but I could really see both of them signing at 6.6-7 mill per. IMO Perry is comfortable here in Anaheim especially as he is not exposed to the media too often as they tend to talk to Selanne or Ryan.
Every time Perry is in front of the camera he looks like he'd rather take head shots from Scott Stevens. Can you imagine Perry in a market like Toronto, Montreal or Philly? IMO this is the ideal situation for him here. He is a star but doesn't get scrutinized if he doesn't score in 2 games. However he will want some sort of assurance the Ducks will continue to be a playoff contender. He is a winner and doesn't want to play on a Columbus or NY Islanders style team (no offense).

All things considered I am positive about those 2 until proven otherwise. What really bumps me is that we will lose Ryan to UFA imo

I would go to 7/8 years at about 7 per annually for both it's a tough pill to swallow but their peers are all getting similar deals. at the end of the deals they'd both be about 35, so they could still give us several very good seasons...Getzlaf will sign he has made it pretty clear what he wants, if Perry wants to test the market we have no choice but to trade him I fear. while that would suck, it would also give Bobby Ryan the opportunity to play his natural position.

If Vancouver offered us Kesler+blue chiper+1st and he was healthy would you guys take it?

Yeah. But I doubt that's what they'd offer.

perry's value is a rental right now. if vancouver only offered kesler i'd still take it and run.. (provided he's healthy)

I don't think the Ducks could get a player who already is a legit #2C. I could see them getting a prospect who could become that. Any team who's contending near the deadline and looking to acquire Perry probably can't afford to trade a centre.

Jensens pretty good.

I know the canuck fans covet Perry. Not sure if they'd trade Kesler, and he is a bit injury prone.

what other players would be targets, specifically centers?

I don't doubt that is a realistic possibility and maybe even probability. But am I the only one who thinks Getz left money on the table last time so Perry could end up with the exact same dollars (over the life of the contracts, not each year) while the Ducks struggled to clear cap space?

I realize there is no such thing as loyalty in sports anymore, but I'd like to think if Getz signs early it might influence Perry to work a little harder at getting a deal done in ANA rather than just looking for a few dollars more (him and Clint Eastwood. )

I can't see how we could get Kesler + a blue chip prospect for an unsigned Perry. After all Vancouver is making a final run for the Cup. They can't give up a #2C.

Not sure what the market is for a UFA Perry. Cap shouldn't be too much of a problem as his 5.25 (?) is manageable. I wonder which teams would be lining up if we miss the playoffs. If they Wilds were calling I'd ask for Dumba and Granlund Yeah I know that won't happen.

Jensen isn't a blue chip prospect. I doubt they'd give up Kesler, seeing as their team is spiraling down the drain in his absence.

Why are we targeting centers?

Last I checked, we have a center that was a first round pick waiting to get his first start. We're carrying five right now.

There's no way you can get a 2nd line center + blue chip and 1st for unsigned Perry. For signed Perry yes, but otherwise that just gives the other team a chance to sign him and he could still walk away when his contract ends.

Perry said recently something like "it gets done if it gets done". And if his agent is coming to town to talk about should he sign with Anaheim or test the market, I think they have a contract in their minds they would want and they probably ask Anaheim if they can pay what they think Perry is worth. Or they could be valuing him too pricy for Anaheim and head straight to open market. I kinda hope that he doesn't do anything too spectacular this season so his price doesn't go too high, although if he has a succesful season and the team does well, that could too make him want to stay.

I hope that Perry isn't just about money, otherwise he could as well go to Toronto and get 10 million for 8 years or whatever is the max contract he could get.

A top 6 forward blue chip prospect and a 1st would get me to listen for sure.... i think the tough part is teams want to make sure he is willing to sign with them.

I was just spitballing about Kesler, i have no idea who would be interested and those teams that are, if we'd want what they would offer.

I do want to see Holland get a shot before definitively deciding on trying to acquire another center, but we also have to prepare for post Koivu life as well although i'd guess the organizational hope is the top 3 centers become Getzlaf/Holland/Rakell in the future

If Koivu continues playing like this, I would want him back for next season. Winnik and Koivu with Etem or Rakell could be very interesting line come next season. DSP could be great option too if he develops some more.

Also we should watch how Lydman plays this season and not be replacing him straight away with young talent. Now that he's healthy, he's been very good so far.

I really dislike the contract situation right now because they have Getzlaf, Perry, Koivu, Selänne, Palmieri, Beleskey, Lydman and Fasth + some AHL players on expiring contracts. Obviously the focus is on Getzlaf and Perry but they shouldn't forget the rest, especially when someone like Palmieri is starting to make some noice, he could get a good offer during the Summer. I just hope that Murray can get many signed during the season.
