I remember seeing a video. It was more than just a suckerpunch, the man was litteraly punched-out a least a dozen times.

While he's leading the league in hits he's on pace to lead it in giveaways too. Isn't that a cause for concern? I mean I didn't see the games but judging by the stats it's not very good.

I thought he looked a bit better than last year, but that's not saying much.

The "giveaway" stat is a flawed one though. I believe they count any missed pass or "chip" that leads to the other team getting the puck.

From what I have seen so far Emelin looks like he is fitting perfectly with Markov, he more often than not gives Markov the puck, which is never a bad plan. He's had a whole bunch of thundering hits the first 2 games.

It's funny heraing the "tankers" talk about the defense being brutal yet Diaz leads the team in points, Markov in goals and Emelin leads the NHL in hits...and they ahve given up no even strength goals after 2 games.

I've noticed that he's had a few giveaways. I'm not too concerned. If you can recover from them, it's okay. Nothing similar to Campoli-to-Burrows or Komisarek-to-Cammalleri and he's playing with Markov so he's safe. I'd like to see him handle the puck better though. Maybe be more patient, conserve the puck along the boards if he's being pressured instead of trying to chip it out of the zone through the middle of the ice.

But you can't have it all. The guy can't be perfect. In the end, you have to evaluate his entire performance and he gets the job done.

And usually, his performance is laying down on the ice clutching his chest for air, losing any sort of conscience about what is happening around him.

I wouldn't rely on giveaways/takeaways... You always see the best defensive Dmans with those stats super buffed because IDK

Emelin had the grill from day 1 of camp.

Plus the Bell Center is notorious for inflating the Home teams give aways. Compare the numbers home and away for the Habs and they aren't even close.

They also tend to inflate hits.

Scorer bias means that takeaways/giveaways and hits are useless statistics.

I wouldn't say useless... but definitely to take with a grain of salt...

It started out as an actual fight but turned into what was basically assault.

No, Maxpac is right. He didn't have one for the intrasquad scrimmage and got the puck in the face...

They are both right.

Emelin had the grill from the start of camp, but he dropped it for the intra squad game where he got hit in the face.

So will he keep the cage?

You can clearly see that other players are aware of Emelin's presence on the ice.

Didn't Gorges lead the league in blocked shots last year too?

That's kind of funny. Looks like the hockey gods pretty much told him to keep the cage!

Emelin is a beast with Markov. Better than Komisarek was back in the days

Emelin is such a better skater than Komi too. Makes his hits so much more effective, he's able to catch the speedy guys and his passing is miles ahead of komi. Perfect partner for Markov

Extending this guy needs to be high up on Bergevin's priority list. He needs to get on it as soon as an extension can be discussed in early July 2013.

We can't let him get to UFA in 2014.

Watch the Leafs give him Komisarek's contract.

Leading the league in hits at the moment, despite playing 1 less game than most...
