Glad Gomez found a place to play. Hope he get's his career back on track. I'll be watching him now.

I think he will fit in great.

As I said last night, Sharks today will agree to terms with Scott Gomez on one-year, $700,000 (pro-rated) deal
Looks like it's going to be official today. We were speculating that they were waiting to get back onto American soil due to potential work visa issues.

David Pollak @PollakOnSharks

Expecting that today's the day #SJSharks announce Gomez getting that 1-year, $700K deal.

Good deal for SJ, low risk- possible reward without the pressure of a huge market and egregious contract

The NHLPA is really protecting its richest players by allowing guys like Gomez to cash in two paychecks while being so mediocre.

700k/yr for 1 year. I dig it. I totally dig it!

Low risk high rewards. Third line might actually contribute now?

Are you saying that players shouldn't have guaranteed contracts or are you saying Gomez shouldn't be allowed to play after he got bought out?

And/or, is the blame being placed on Gomez for being offered/signed to that ridiculous contract in the first place?

As a Habs fan, I have nothing but best wishes for Gomez in the future. He was pretty good the first season in Montreal, but everything fell apart after that. It's not even like he wasn't giving his all, but things just didn't click and the albatross contract weighed him down even more. Hopefully he bounces back.

Surely at least 50% of the blame goes to Gomez (or 33% if you want to count his agent as a separate party)?

Good signing for SJ. They could be a scary team this year

His agent is out looking for the best deal for his client. I don't think you can blame Gomez...

Also:

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks
Burns goes on IR to make room for Gomez on #SJSharks roster.

I think it's a good signing for the Sharks. They really have nothing to lose by giving him a shot.

What will their lineup look like now? Handzus in or out?

Depends on how Gomez looks/chemistry/etc:

Marleau - Thornton - Pavelski
Havlat - Couture - Clowe
Galiardi - Zues/Gomez - Wingels
Desjardins - Gomez/Zues - Burish
Shep/McLaran

That's at least how I see the coaches doing it. I wouldn't mind benching Zues and putting Shep as the 4th center, giving them an agitating 4th line and a speedy 3rd line.

So you think it should have gone more like:

NYR: We offer you 7.3M.
Gomez: No... I think I'm more like a 3.5M player at absolute best. I don't think I can have another season like the one I just had. Thanks though.

???

I'd much rather see Zeus benched and Sheppard-Desy-Burish as the fourth line.

But you're right, I doubt we see Zeus benched for Sheppard.

I thought I recall someone saying Sheppard was playing better as a center, but that's just quibbling over details; point is Zues needs to be on the bench.

I wouldn't mind Shep spending more time in Wooostaah. Zues actually looked really good last night. Was remarkably quick.

I dig the signing. Low risk, hi reward.
