So why is it that over the past several years or so the Isles have made a concerted effort to get rid of it? The fans love it....they always demand it, and usually after some silly attempt at a new song (remember Blur Song 2 or that lame euro Na Na nanana Life is life or whatever it was called) they ALWAYS go back to Rock and Roll part 1
And the reason teams are shying away from it was because the guy who sings it, Gary Glitter, was caught with child porn and is now also a convicted sex offender for doing some shady things with minors in Vietnam. He also got arrested again last year in connection with that whole Jimmy Salvia thing (look up "Operation Yewtree" on Wikipedia if you want to be horrified), where he was accused of having sex with a 13 year old girl. Guy's a real scum bag.
The song they used to play was actually "Rock n' Roll Part II"

really...i though rock n roll part 2 was what the Devils play?
We do not want to use it becuase Gary Glitter is a "sex Offender"
So we want to shy away from it.
However we will play Pumped up kicks. That song is about school shootings.
People still listen to chris brown even though he beats women.
Who cares if the guy is a sex offender. That does not mean the islanders support what he did. Just to be clear i am against what he did.
There are plenty of music artist who comit crimes yet people still listen to there music. That does not mean that you are a criminal just because you like there sound or beat.

Because the bass player's cousin went to Columbine High School and survived the massacre. The song is written about bringing awareness to teen mental illness and violence, it's not condoning it.

Big difference between what individuals do versus what a business does.

Plenty of people. Especially the people's lives the guy's ruined I'd imagine.

Which is exactly why you wont hear them play it.

No one said you were a criminal, just that most businesses dont want to associate themselves with people who are felons be it from child abuse, domestic violence, etc. because it can alienate potential customers. Big difference between that and individuals, although just because "plenty of people" do something doesn't mean it's OK either. Me, I'd rather have a conscious in the things I support and purchase. But YMMV.
I live in Richmond, VA, and go to Norfolk Admirals games often. They use Rock n' Roll Part II as their goal song....and yes, the fans yell "you suck" at the opposing team

It was and always has been Rock and Roll Part 1, it is what made the Isles unique as they were the only team to use Part 1.
It is because fans chanted "You Suck", the Isles (Wang) asked them to stop, they didn't so they changed it under the false pretense of Glitter being a sex offender.

Reason: Not necessary
I don't get it.. I mean plenty of other teams use it and all their fans yell "you suck" who cares its not like they're chanting ahole or other words. It coulda been a lot worse.
Devils fan here. I understand if Wang has a moral objection to lining the coffers of a child molester. I assume the team paid royalties to Glitter for the rights to play the song.
If the reason is because of the "You Suck" chant though, I think that is stupid. A passionate fanbase is a good thing; the rowdy young kids make up your future season ticket holders. It's not like they were chanting obscenities. The Devils have a "You Suck" chant to Part II and it really gets the fanbase going, especially school age kids who briefly are allowed freedom from societal norms against such behavior and can blow off some steam yelling "You Suck" at the opposing team. The Devils have a "You Suck" chant and I do not think it violates any sort of "family friendly" environment. Family friendly does not mean squeaky clean. Any kid not old enough to understand the difference between a crowd chant and telling the friends/peers off in such a way is probably not old enough to go to a sporting event. It's not like kids have never heard "you suck" before.

Sorry not my cup of tea. Having a class organization includes with what you promote to your fan base. If your fans want to chant "you suck" at a team that's their right as Americans, but your organization publicly endorsing is another thing completely. I from Jersey and when I hear Devils fans doing it I drives me bonkers, especially because they say it when they are losing or they say it to teams that are ahead of them in the standings.
But then again, when you ask most of the fan-base, they couldn't name the starting lineup for either of the teams playing.
