Isackson a rising star for the University of Minnesota

With 15 drafted players on their roster, the University of Minnesota features more NHL prospects than any other NCAA team this season. So it is easy for lesser-known players to receive smaller amounts of attention. But sophomore and Buffalo Sabres prospect Christian Isackson is emerging from the shadows of the team’s top players and is beginning to establish himself as a rising star in the Golden Gophers’ talent-laden lineup.

After playing in just 11 games and posting no points as a freshman last season, Isackson has already surpassed that this season, playing in all 24 games to date and posting 15 points (three goals, 12 assists).… read more

Good read. He's been much improved this year.

Fun Fact: This past weekend's North Dakota-Minnesota games had a combined 28 NHL Draft picks in the lineups. 28! I thought that was an incredible statistic.

who says all the best players go the CHL route??

not sure if there is any CHL team that can say the same as Minnesota with 15 drafted players.. I would be shocked if there was one.

That's because prospects can stay longer in the NCAA.

most CHL teams wouldn't have 15 players who have had the opportunity to be drafted, NCAA gets all the players after or during their draft year.

Uhhhh I've seen way more than one player have 4 seasons in the CHL. And just like the CHL college players can leave earlier if they choose to....

Not sure what you're getting at. The NCAA route is more than fine for tons of prospects.

99% of the time, the players commit to a university a year or two in advance of the year that they are drafted. Not much different than players playing in the CHL before the draft, no?
