That's funny, I remember people on this boad saying Price was overpaid at 2.75 per. Honestly he had less leverage than PK does, he lost his spot to Halak that year, and IIRC Maxpac hadn't broken out yet. I think PK deserves a bigger contract at this point than they did.

Exactly, the situation between Subban and Price/Pacioretty has nothing in common besides their ages.
This team will continue to go nowhere by constantly throwing away talent because they aren't all mindless boyscouts.
Bob McKenzie just said he believes this will end in a trade. Habs want short term, PK wants long term. Also said they are between 2 1/2 and 3 million per off.
****.
Yeah, I just picked myself off the floor. It's hard to imagine how this can lead to something good for the Habs. Risky move for Bergevin, can't believe this team no matter what management is in place keeps doing stuff like this.
Well, we have heard the 2yr/2.75 mil per year rumor and PK wanting 5-6 mil per year in a long term deal. I dont see why its so hard to just meet in the middle? Ultimately it must be an issue of term right?
2 year 8 or 9 mil per year...how can either side not like that?
McKenzie hasn't reported anything relevant in regards to Subban so I wouldn't take his speculation that seriously. Won't be surprised to see one of the sides budge when they meet this week.

Let's hope Bob is wrong for once.
I hope Bergevin sticks to his guns.... or the team will be in more trouble in the near future....
If I were opposition GMs I'd try to use Bergevin's unwillingness to give Subban good money as a way to lower his trade value. ie. If you really thought he was worth this much, you'd have signed him for that much.
It would be shocking if M. Bergevin lets Subban leave this organization.
Rather he had not been hired in the first place. This would be the worst case scenario becoming reality when we were discussing GM hirings. I know he went on record to say that PK won't be traded, but what if things changed? MB will be dead to me.
not if you play your cards right.... and trade for the best assets you can get.
If Bergevin thinks Subban is only worth 3M for 2 years, then his idea of the best asset we can get for Subban likely isn't going to be anything to write home about.
Honestly, I think MB is doing a fine job in this problem.
You can't give Subban 6M...he's a great player for you guys but once you give him 6M, next minute you know Galchenyuk is demanding 6M right out of his RFA contract.
Subban will get his money sooner or later but he just needs to meet in the middle, take 4-4.5M on a short term deal and then go for the big money later on.
Subban still hasn't proven how much he can do offensively. He's still just a ~35 point guy, he needs to elevate that before he demands 6M.
He's not going anywhere in my opinion. Hope they can settle a good contract for both sides in the very near future. The guy has to be out there in this shortened season.
I blame Subban. His selfishness and greed is not more important than the team.
The one thing that sticks out in my mind is an interview with Price last summerwhen he was asked about Subban's contract negotiations. It was clear to me he was not impressed by PK's position.

Of course PK deserves more he has done far more than both of them at the same stage in their careers.
I always believed in Price I wanted him to sign long term but they gave him a 2 year deal because he wasnt even the starter. He COULD have sat out since the Habs had already traded Halak right? so I am sure he had some leverage.
Pacioretty had less than half a good season under his belt. PK has more points than him and he is a dman. Than add to that the issue of his health which was a big concern after the Chara hit. There was no chance of Max ever getting or deserving a long term deal.
There are zero similarities between PK and those two other than the fact that their rookie contracts expired.
The comparisons to Del Zotto and Kuikov arent justified either. How man of you would actually trade PK straight up for either of them? Look more at what Carlson or Myers got.
