Oh for the days of 2004. Alas, Homer can't make an offer Montreal can't match. Particularly if he wants to be able to hold onto Giroux and some other guys when the time comes.
Force them to make a tough decision, at least. Timonen's expiring cap hit will cover it. Pronger's LTIR covers Giroux's raise. Briere's expiring cap hit covers raises for Couturier and Schenn. They can also use a compliance buyout on Bryz if they need to.
Subban has the skills and mobility to help the Flyers all over the ice. This team is known to make desperate moves when things aren't going well. I have been desperate for this move for a long time.
Subban demanding big bucks this early in his career is kind of ridiculous, not to mention he's one of the most immature defenseman in the league but I'm sure there's a team that will shell out the bucks.
His metrics warrant a nice raise. I don't know what exactly he's asking for.
I would if I were Bergevin also. But would Bergevin? What are SUbban and MTL so far apart on? Term? 5 for 5 seems like a deal both sides might be able to agree on, maybe a little more money or a little less term.

You cannot attempt to sign an RFA away from a team with plenty of cap space and an owner who has no problem spending tons of money to make his team competitive. Heck, we couldn't even sign an RFA away from an allegedly "cheap" Nashville team... you aren't getting Subban out of MTL short of at a minimum the 2 firsts, a 2nd, and a 3rd level of compensation ($6.728 million average annual value).
And with the way this team is playing and the insane depth in this draft, Homer would have to be high as a kite to even consider trading his 1st round pick.
The only way Subban is coming here is if we were to trade for him.
Bob Mckenzie reports he believes the Canadians will trade Subban because they are too far apart on contract negotiations right now.
Make your offers boys.
Next years first, second, and their choice of one prospect besides Laughton and Gostisbehere. Maybe toss in this years second or third if they insist upon it, but would want their pick in the next round, IE we will give up our second, but they have to throw in their third.
I would center a deal around Voracek. Try Voracek+Gostisbehere. Subban is what we all hope Ghost would one day become, but Subban has a higher ceiling.
Voracek + Meszaros + Read
for
Subban + Eller + pick
This is of course after a Flyers' fan threw out
Voracek + Gostisbehere + 2nd
for
Subban
Ugh.
Personally, I'd offer what I feel a young, extremely talented offensive weapon with attitude problems and a strong desire to get "what's his" is worth...
DeSean Jackson
(Basically a decline in effort, caring, and all around play after getting what he supposedly deserves.)

I think that's a bit of an overpayment for a player they can't sign. That's full market value, I don't think they're gonna get full market value for him. He's probably asking for 6+ a year over 3-4 years and hoping he gets a big raise after that.

Subban becomes available, we most likely will have to pay full market value for him. There will be a line of teams calling the Canadians about their price.
My full offer would be Voracek+Ghost+2nd rounder for Subban+ lower level prospect.

We just traded JVR for defensive help.
Now we're going to trade Voracek for defensive help?

There will not be teams lining up to go after a guy that wants 6+ a year when the cap is falling hard next year. You'll see some of the big market teams with cap space go after him, but nobody will be willing to sell the farm for him due to motivational questions. He's got the "DeSean Jackson" effect going on.
And as Shafer said, trading away more offense after the hits we've taken this offseason would be asinine.
Now we're going to trade Voracek for defensive help?
I feel like this is not a good idea.
It's always easier to produce offensive help through other trade or even free agency than it is with defense. If we have to struggle one year with a so-so offense in order to stock up the defense with Subban(especially in a shortened season) I would be okay with it.
Perry, Iginla and other prime candidates could be available this summer. There is so many way to increase your offense. Defense is just to hard to find not to try to make a deal.
I don't think there is a chance Montreal would do a deal around Mez/Grossman. If they do, we would rob them blind.
The ONLY reason they're trading Subban is because Subban is trying to rob them blind.
So we're going to give them Voracek so that Subban can rob us blind?
Come on...
By putting Subban on the market, they've already declared that whatever Subban gets from his next team will be an overpayment. Basically, by trading for Subban, you're trading into an overpayment contract. You know this going in.
Let me also point out that Subban isn't Chris-freaking-Pronger or Kimmo-****ing-Timonen. You're basically getting Mike Green + more attitude. I don't see Mike Green being worth significantly more than Voracek, particularly more than Voracek on a great contract.
Now we're buying into the Montreal hype out of the gate, and overpaying for a player we're going to have to overpay in money?
You want us to overpay twice. Nope.
Either Montreal gets the overpayment or Subban gets the overpayment. Both are not getting an overpayment from us.
