Jimmy has a high basketball IQ.

Realized that his shot wasn't going down and started being aggressive and attacked the rim to get his confidence back up. His confidence getting back up resulted in him nailing a huge three in the final two minutes.

Wow, great signing, that came out of nowhere! Hairston is a very in demand player, would be easy to trade if we go that way. In the meantime, great guy to throw in against lefties. A Schierholtz/Hairston platoon in RF is going to be lethal.

Just to illustrate, here are last years stats:

Schierholtz vs. righties
178 AB .287/.360/.466/.826 6 HR 17 RBI 3 SB

Hairston vs. lefties
189 AB .286/.317/.550/.867 11 HR 30 RBI 4 SB

Averaged together and pro-rated over 500 ABs:
500 AB .286/.340/.508/.848 23 HR 64 RBI 10 SB

You think the RBIs would end up higher so you are essentially looking at an all star calibre outfielder for 5.25M. Brilliant.

Its a really nice platoon. And as you said, both can be flipped at the deadline for people looking for part time players (like what happened with Reed Johnson last year)

And arguably the best pull pen in the league. Still not sold on their starting pitching, though. They'll need Medlen to pick up where he left off and really turn into a #1 Ace... and then have Teheran develop into something serviceable.
