I honestly don't know the answer. Are you looking at 1-2 teams seriously bidding or 10? Keep in mind the cap drops back to $64M next season.
Where have you heardthat he's looking for 6-7 million?

Not much to read...PK says he wants to stay in MTL but also wants to be paid.

If you mean "official" sign and trades, Hossa is probably the last one (OTT-ATL). If you mean unofficial, both Wideman and Vokoun had their new deals in place before the Caps dealt them to the Flames and Pens (or frameworks for the deals, at least).

Neither of which matters all that much; the new CBA means sign-and-trades would now actually be potentially valuable, since there's an extra year potentially in play.

That said, Subban's an RFA. A team wouldn't need MTL's permission to talk to him. They can just come up with a deal, go to MTL and say "we'll trade you x for him, or we'll sign him to an offer sheet for y."

Habs and Subban are said to be 2-2.5m apart so I guess most people reckon Subban have been offered 4-5m per year, seeing as that is a good contract for some one signing his second NHL deal.

Or Montreal might be trying to sign him to same deal Del Zotto had. People are also hinting that Bergevin wants to sign him for about 2.5-3 million per year for 2 years.

What would Montreal want? Replacement defense or high end forward talent.

Be very interesting to see how Philly manages the cap in that situation. If Pronger retires, his contract will stay on the books. As of now, Philly only has $7M in cap space for next year. Enough for Subban, but not enough to plug any other holes.

Two years from now, things will be very interesting in Philly. $44M already committed, need to resign Giroux, Couturier, B Schenn and fill other holes.

Granted, the team may buy out Bryzgalov, but they will need to replace him.

I don't see how they can realistically add another long-term $6M+ contract.

you missed his point.

he was talking about the hab's gm propensity to trade exciting, out of the mold, perceived as troublemakers by the bat**** crazy montreal media, current or future star players.

why do you think montreal hasn't had a legitimately exciting player since lafleur? well, there was roy, but guess what, he was traded too. either we don't draft them, or when we do draft them and they turn out to be exciting, we end up trading them for some ****ing reason, which is what he was talking about.

this right here, this, is the what keeps me up at night: the habs trading subban. it would be chelios all over again...

the canadiens would be absolutely beyond stupid to trade him.

I don't think he'll be traded, however, what kind of leverage does Montreal have unless they do a sign and trade? Who the hell wants to give up quality assets for the RIGHTS to an RFA when that kind of move would give a ton of leverage to the player?

Would love to see him on the wings due to our lack of D in general. Doubt we would have anything worth offering though. The only thing I can come up with would be like Franzen, Quincy, emmerton/mursak + pick.

I don't want Subban out of Montreal, not even close I think he will become one of the best d-man both offensively and defensively. But if he does get traded I'll look at the players involved and form an opinion.

Educated guess based on the fact that the teams are $2-2.5M apart. Figure it is likely that Montreal is offering at least $3.5-4M.

That's why I said "if" in my post. I don't know its true, but based on what we've heard so far it seems likely.

I doubt Ken Holland would try to trade for Subban, if so he'll probably put him in the AHL for 9 years Seriously I don't think the red wings have anything worth offering.

I think this is actually a pretty solid offer
Not a terrible offer but not a great one either. There is zero chance Montréal trades him inside the division, much less to Toronto, unless it's a jaw dropping offer.

Habs have all the leverage vs Subban. They are not in a win-now mode and can afford to be patient with Subban having no ''no trade clauses'' and being nowhere near UFA status. They have his exclusive rights for a few years.

I think Habs should wait for an offer-sheet. If the offer is out of this world, bite the bullet and take the pics. If the offer is reasonable, match the offer, Habs have more than enough money.

Also, no interest in Niderreiter. This guy has been a huge disappointment thus far and is to much of a question mark. Someone will offer a much more tempting offer than that.

Don't think non Philly fans realize how valuable Couturier is to us. Short of a panic move Couturier would never be traded for an unsigned Subban. Then again it is Holmgren.
