I think a bigger question is would they be willing to pay him what he wants
I am guessing he will get better but simple fact is he stills has alot to prove if he wants the big bucks. Basically his 2 options should be take a 1-2 year deal and prove himself and then get the big bucks if he does or take a longer term deal at a reduced rate what he might get at the end if he took the shorter term deal(say like 4-4.5Mish)
I think the bigger question is does Subban want to play in Long Island?
I doubt Philly is eager to give up a guy like Couturier for a player without a contract. More likely Niederreiter + for Subban. How would Habs fans feel about Nino + Isles 1st round pick for Subban?

If Wang/Snow value Subban as a player, they'll pay him what they feel is right. If Subban's and Wang/Snow's views are the same, then they'll give him the contract he wants. They will pay their own players big bucks (Tavares, Okposo, Grabner, Nielsen, eventually Hamonic and AMac) if they value them high. I think Subban would be a great fit here. JT's best friend and a need on the ice, can't ask for much more in a player. His value in a trade is obviously standing in the way.
A package around Niederreiter+, then waiving Finley to send back to Buffalo/Rochester would make:

I think it would be a good start, Id want alittle more though.
As much as I would love to see him in Toronto, that will never happen. However, I think he would look real good in Edmonton, Detroit, or LA. I don't know if any of those teams could make it work but if they can then PK could really thrive. I feel that the Habs curtail him of his true talent potential anyway.
I'd be very curious to see what each side is looking for both in terms of years and dollars. I'm a little surprised an offer sheet hasn't been done at this point to be honest.

Yea, I think it's close to being fair. I doubt all Isles fans would be on board with it though, the draft is deep. They'd get a chance to lock up a top pairing defenseman for multiple years. Pair him with Hamonic and with a core of Tavares, Strome, Subban, Hamonic things are suddenly looking really bright on the Island.
Really? because he's a defensive disaster and I do a happy dance whenever he starts in his own end
Yes, really. It's also been about 2 years since his sophomore season, when he garnered his reputation as a defensive liability. Curiously, he improved dramatically since then and is now, while not outstanding in the defensive end, a reliable D in his own zone, while being good for about 40 pts a season.
Is he worth Subban? No. But you made yourself look like a fool by calling him "brutal".

That looks really good to me. Especially if somehow Visnovsky returns.
Depends what the "+" is. Niederreiter is not worth anything close to Subban. He can tear the AHL up all he wants but he's still the guy with 1 point in 55 games.
If traded, Montreal will want him as far away as possible, ie. Western Conference.
I said in December, and I believe today, Edmonton and Montreal are talking about this and I believe they have been for a while (as far back as September when PK didn't sign before the lockout). I still think Montreal was talking Yakupov which, as every game goes by, will be harder and harder for the Oiler brass and fans to digest if the kid really starts to light it up.
Not only do I think PK doesn't want to sign in Montreal, I think he wants to play in Edmonton (tough time getting that out of my mouth after so many years).
That is 100% irrelevant. Subban can't choose where he gets traded.
The team who trades for him would surely contact him and his agent and ask for what he's demanding in terms of salary and if he wants to sign for their team.

I honestly doubt that Subban would want to play in Edmonton.
Plus an unsigned Subban wouldn't even get you within smelling distance of Yakupov.
