For Ovie, learning a new position and a new system at the same time in a shortened season is what's rough, but I believe it's doable. Ovie needs new tricks since the other teams have him figured out. It's frustrating watching him come down to score and three to four guys are on him at once.

I'm frustrated with our defense. I watched the Rangers-Bruins game last night and the difference in defense from those two teams made me want to weep for the Caps.

I have faith they'll put it together though.

He does have a +55 season on his resume, the pedigree that comes with being a first round pick, and the sort of size that makes GMs do stupid, stupid things. There might be someone will be foolhardy enough to try him as a reclamation project.

Also, while our defense is sucking, we do have pretty decent depth now that Poti's healthy. Hamrlik-Kundratek is a lot better than what most teams field for their third pair. Some of the players seeing third pairing time on the shallower bluelines throughout the league really should not be playing at this level. There are a lot of teams that (contract aside) would love to have Schultz.

That said, some guys just have it so tough, that blowing off girls indeed hurts their feeble chances. Damned if they do or don't.

I have thought the same thing. Its a bad time to make the change, on top of a new coach and a new system. But its up to Oates to green light it and he did. Of course, he thinks his new system is simple to learn, I am sure.

And I still think its the right move, no pun intended.

Last game Ovi had 4-5 classic Ovi LW rushes. They were all stuffed just inside the blue. We all saw it, the puck didnt get below the hash. I think its too early to try to go back to that as the staple play of our offense.

Conversely, on his lines only goal, Ovi circled from behind the net on his forehand, hit nick on his forehand, for a nice looking goal founded in quality passing. For all of the chemistry between the 2, I have not seen simple plays like that from that pair often enough.

there is no way MP should dress or get more ice time, that would send a horrible message to the players.

DvdActive looks interesting. Just don't want to end up like kim Dotcom, though, eh?

Are you kidding? Hendy's our goon. He was clearly tuning up for Bourque on Tuesday.

This newbie has posted probably the best GDTs we've had in a few years. And the fact that no one else seems to give a **** about this season...why not eh?

Perreault was one of two Caps who had a good season last year. He's 25, makes $1 million, and scored at a 20 goal pace in a trap.

Given our center depth, yeah he's not going to play. Any idiot could have predicted that. What I don't get is why keep him, not play him and drive his trade value into the toilet?

I'm not sure how big the market is for relatively unproven tiny centers who don't have a great skill set...

Two very unhappy players working on the fourth line may work to the Caps benefit. Wasn't it Johansson and Perreault that found some chemistry last year after Backstrom went down?

Anyway........win fellas for the first time this year and for Oates. In case you haven't looked your schedule doesn't get any easier.

Solving the PK problem would go a long, long way. Played a significant hand in costing two games so far. Go back to #hunterhockey and players on the PK please. They were lights out in the playoffs last year.

we pride our selves here on the non-gdt game day thread opener. think minimulist. i know i like it that way. i dont need a professional production. i'd also like to think the op is a caps fans. when the only posts on record are the gdt opens, i am skeptical that the op gives a crap about the team.

play me or trade me...in french. his new agent is gloves.

@bcf: i am unclear what perreault's trade value would have been. he is a good injury backup option. he was that last season and got to play because of the injury to backstrom. my read is that his trade value was not equal or greater to the cost of replacing him with a player as good to fill the role the caps have him in?

is there a player at hershey? i dont think so. they let aucoin go. so, they would have had to go out and get a player to replace perreault who might not have been as good.

I like a GDT with proper data in the OP.

If you don't create GDT's ever, should you get a vote in what we get?

Otherwise, all day long we get asked if someone is starting, who is the goalie, who has a feed. Every damn game.

I'm mainly just a lurker which is why my post count is so low. I started coming to this board when your avatar was a red car. Yes I'm a caps fan. Sorry that you don't like me making the thread. I'll wait next time so someone else has a chance to post the gdt.
