I did not take any of PKs comments negatively. He actually brought up some great points that shows that he wants to be here now and in the future. In my mind the guy deserves a hefty pay raise, he was thrown into the fire and he exceeded expectations. I cant see guys like myers, fowler etc.. playing the same way PK did in this market. The guy loves flash and Montreal is a flashy place.
Is ~4 times his current salary over the next two years a good raise? 2 Years 7M. Problem solved.
If this is truly the case, why doesn't PK sign the bridge deal?
Who's to say what will happen in the future. If I'm Subban, I feel I have proved myself enough to get a long term deal. I'd prefer having some stability over having to do this all again in 2 years.
Of course, a lot depends on the term, but 4.5m/year is much closer to fair than 2.5m/year.
also closer to top dollars.
and if wants 5.5 cause HE think that's what is fair... you'll still side with him, cause at the end, even though you found a lot of holes in his games, you like his flashiness.
Odd how so many people want him traded already, only after missing two games...
It's not as if we'll get a great return if we trade him at this point. Who's going to offer anything of worth when/if the Habs trade Subban? We'll lose that trade for sure. But just like everyone else we lost for nothing or we traded for peanuts, we just want team chemistry above all else...
Guess that Subban did not understand with the lockout that by holding out the one who is losing money is him.The Canadiens will still sell tons of merchandise and sellout all the time so he has no leverage.
If he is so good and confident he should have no problem taking the bridge contract that Price, Pacioretty and many other players in the league took before getting their payday.
As far as I remember, the reason Chelios was dealt was for his behavior. I may be wrong on this. But if I recall, Chelios had gone partying (don't remember if it was during playoffs or not) and got himself injured. Enough that it ruined the Habs chances. But this is what I remember and I may be wrong. But all in all, I know that it was for his behavior.
The current situation is more about contract details.
Exactly, there is no behavior problem in Subban's case, he's out there in the community helping all the time, and there has never been problems with his work ethics. The problem is that the media in Montreal is trying to make it seem like he's got serious attitude problems or w.e. and it's turing the fans against him. The Sports media in Montreal are masters at creating Sensationalism... They create stories out of nothing, they almost got price out of there and they are really going hard on PK now that Gomez is gone and there is not much else to talk about.
I dont think the money number is the issue, its the length of the contract which is the key thing here.
That's his choice. Nothing preventing him from signing longer term in two year. If he puts up the equivalent of 65 points the next two year he can get 6-7 or 8 million per year for many years.

LOL, I already told you what I liked about his game, and flashiness wasn't one of the factors I cited.

Well said. Sadly a lot of fans blindly go along for the ride.
I think that Subban has an exaggerated sense of importance.Probably due to the summer spent hanging with Gomez and Cammalleri after playing in the playoffs his coming out start to being a rookie.Being associated with two players that had received overblown contracts they hadn't earned,at that point of their careers. This point is more than obvious, when one looks at their accomplishments since.Subban needs to bear down prove he's the player that is deserving of the contract, much as Markov has done which is why after three seasons of injuries he was resigned, much to the chagrin of many Hab fans.
Wouldn't it, therefore, be to his advantage to sign the bridge contract? ("his" being Subban of course)
Why take risk of injury or risk that team sucks and let it reflect on him?
There are only few instances where players prefer short term, and that's if they have something to prove, like Niemi with SJ after winning the cup with CHI and signed a 1 year deal.
Perhaps you should stick to what I actually said if you want to know what I'm saying. Inference isn't your strong suit.
oh, you wouldnt be ok with 5.5, my bad.
but when you jump into a conversation and start with this
Quote:
Why does every player have to fit this cookie cutter mould / boring cliché of how a hockey player should act?
Yes, PK has swagger. Yes, he's very confident in himself. Yes, he's flashy.
The Habs desperately need some flair, and I'm getting this sick feeling that Bergevin and Therrien want to neuter him, just like the Randys did last season.
it's kinda a hard to believe that him being flashy isnt the main reason you like him.

This. All I am seeing in this thread are sheeps of the media blabbering unfounded opinions.
