I wanted Hendricks on 2 and nailed it. Skill level or work ethic warranting the move aside, I think its a myth that 4th liners cannot play on top lines. Warren Young played with Mario. Semenko played with Gretzky. Knuble and a whole cast of others played with Ovi, including Aucoin.

Its not who plays where, its who plays with who. Ribs needs faceoff help.

I will go as far to say Hendricks will score. He will go to the net angle his stick and skates at the goal and wait.

Tonight may be the night ladies and gents. It better be as I can't take a lousy arse product on our lousy ice.

I'm confident the Caps will win as long as they don't suck tonight.

i said this basically all last year and i'll say it again now. its not that the caps lose, its how they look on the ice.

their shape is completely irrelevant, they lose because theyre inept in all 3 zones, offensively theyve never even heard of a cycle and defensively theyre softer than butter. its OK losing a game, its happens in hockey, but the caps barely even compete. they get their ****ing doors knocked off by bad teams, home and away.

You maybe right.

In fact ever since that Montreal series (after game 6 specifically) it seems the team is off. I don't believe it to be the coaching or even overall effort level of individual players.

Prior to those days the Caps played with an enthusiasm and eagerness across the board. They jumped into the glass and celebrated every goal like it was an OT winner.

They lost that extra gear and have never gotten it back. In retrospect it was not Boudreau, Flash, Kozlov, Schultz, Hunter, Semin, Green or any other whipping boy of the day. Its a malaise that has taken over the team.

They need a spark. Something or someone to ignite that fire again.

They just dont ever seem to "want it" as much as the other team anymore.

i think they still "want it" but they just don't believe they can actually win. even at their highest points like the 2009-2010 presidents trophy season they get beaten by an eight seed and after beating the rangers in 5 then getting swept by the lighting **** just seems to go wrong with this team and you can only get your hope up so many times.

Mike Keenan was right about that Lightning series. Prior too it he said the Cap would struggle against a veteran Tampa team seeing as how they are a mentally fragile team.

Maybe its a confidence thing as you imply. I think its more of an enthusiasm thing personally.

I kind of agree with the bolded. And I think part of the reason they're not as enthusiastic as a few years ago is because the pressure has been building around the team to win it all. They had nothing to lose a back then, played with enthusiasm and looked like they were having fun out there. They've been on the map since then. Many have picked them to win it all for a few years now. And they have crumbled under that pressure. The 'young guns' look to have become so mechanical now.

They might turn out to be terrible this season, but after 2 games it's too early to judge. We've seen most of the players in the lineup for a while. They've been inconsistent at times, but they've also proven that they can play well.

It's way too early to write them off as a bust.

I agree. Mechanical is a good way to describe how 90% of this team plays now.

They need to get that "fun" back into the mix.

More so than the loss against the Habs in the playoffs, I think what affected their psyche is the move to a more defensive system under Bruce a few years ago. That losing streak followed by the defensive system is when they started to look mechanical.
