the Andreoff goal turned the game around. The Monarchs were being outplayed until that point.
Manchester took advantage of some hideous giveaways in their own zone in the 3rd period.
That call on Portland(forgot the player) that hit Legein up high, drew blood and only got 2 minutes was baffling to me.
2 minutes for head checking. umm what?
should of been 5 and a game.

Monarchs win!!

3-0 over the Bruins! Didn't get to see the game but it sounded like Jones was awesome tonight! Goals from Vey, Cliche, & Stewart (en)

Monarchs have now won 4 in a row! And 7 of the past 9 games. The only two losses coming when the team was depleted by the lockout ending

Vey is now leading the Monarchs with 36 points in 42 games, with Toffoli, Kozun, and Pearson right behind with 31, 29 and 28 points respectively. Really happy with how the young guys are making the transition in the pros.

42 saves for Jones in the shutout. Anthony Stewart got into a scrap 11 seconds into the game. Andreoff also got into a fight.

Also making their Monarchs debut tonight was Chris Huxley (from the Ontario Reign and played at Harvard).

Not sure about the d parings but forwards last night were

Pearson-Vey-Toffoli
Stewart-Loktionov-Kozun
Andreoff-Cliche-O'Neill
Czarnik-Weal-Legein

Cool, thanks so Johnson and Meckler were the healthy scratches?

Good to see Stewart replace some of that grit lost by Nolan/King and Clune. Bummed that Clune was picked up but stoked for him at his chance to be in the NHL.

Monarchs down 4-1 after 2 to Connecticut. Mannino is having one of his bad games!

Monarchs lost 4-1. Linden Vey had the lone goal.

Thought the Monarchs played a decent game.... but Mannino wasn't sharpe tonight. Deslauries (sp) continues to use size effectively but he's slow so he's gonna have to be smart to be an NHLer.

Speaking of speed. Anthony Stewart is surprisingly fast!

Was at the game tonight so thought I would share my thoughts (take them for what it's worth, I was never mistaken for a scout)

The team as a whole had trouble with the size and physicality of the Whale, especially in the d-zone. Guys like Mashinter (who is huge), Segal and Newbury were all over them.

Focused on Deslauriers and it confirmed what a lot of other posters have said. He looks the part of a mobile, physical 2nd-pairing guy with an edge and bit of offense to his game, but doesn't seem real instinctive, kind of floating around and getting caught out of position. Hope he puts it all together.

The kid line looked good, getting most of the scoring chances. Vey's goal was sweet. Pearson is bigger than I thought. Toffoli played with effort and tried to be physical; wasn't real effective at it, but he tried. I'll let others decide where they fit best in the lines and positions, but the high skill level is evident. Fingers crossed.

Lokti wasn't too noticeable out there. I don't know if he can thrive without other puck-possession types on his line. Stewart put a puck into his skates and killed one promising breakout.

Mannino wasn't good. The second goal was a fluke off a defenseman's stick, but if he was on his post, he would have had it. The fourth goal was just a flicked shot from the blueline. He must have been screened but I couldn't tell from my angle. The crowd started up a "Mannino... you suck!" chant in the second. Unkind.

First AHL game; I'm an LA transplant. Have to say it was a fun atmosphere. A choir of terrified 6-year-olds mauled the national anthem. It was adorable.

Always nice to know I got a fellow Kings fan in CT.

and yes those poor kids butchered it. Camera went on them and they all froze!

The goalie's name... you suck chant is a Hartford staple. They've been doing it since the Whaler days.

Agree with your thoughts on the game. I thought they look like the better team through the first half of the game but after those 3 goals were let up in the 2nd they just look defeated.

Monarchs lost last night 3-1 to the Portland Pirates. Toffoli had the lone goal. He now has 20 goals going into the all star break.

Wasn't able to watch this game since I was the watching Kings games

highlights from last night's game and friday's game

Saturday's 3-1 loss to Portland

Friday's 4-1 loss to Connecticut

The AHL is in it's All-Star break. The Monarchs put together a video compilation of Tyler Toffoli's goals at home. **as noted earlier he has 20 goals**

I just cant see Tyler Toffoli not having a NHL career.

That shot alone should be enough....marvellous. Last game vs Portland again.

Wonder how a line of Brown/Kopi/Toffoli would look in a couple of years.

On the business side, the Monarchs go into the break 17th of 30 in league attendance, off yet another 2.5% from this point last year... that year-over-year constant downward trend isn't something that bodes well for the team's long-term future in Manchester, IMO... especially when only 7 years ago they were topping not just the league, but all of minor pro hockey with nearly double the announced crowds...

Any idea what's behind the drop-off?

I'm not local, but when I used to write an attendance column, people opined when I pointed out the initial drop that for the first five years, there were a lot of five-year season ticket commitments made before the team ever took the ice, which kept the numbers up for five years, but after that, the decline started once companies and individuals were no longer locked in. Makes sense to me, but I don't know for SURE that's what's going on -- maybe the perennial lack of playoff success has weighed in with general market fatigue, who knows. It's HARD work to stay on top in the minor pro attendance game, and it requires that effort for many years.
